PART ONE

and in the mountains, behind the forests,

Across the wide seas

Not in heaven - on earth

An old man lived in a village.

The old lady has three sons:

The eldest was a smart kid,

Middle son and this way and that,

The younger one was completely stupid.

The brothers sowed wheat

Yes, they took us to the capital city:

You know, that was the capital

Not far from the village.

They sold wheat there

Money was accepted by account

And with a full bag

We were returning home.

In a long time al soon

Misfortune befell them:

Someone started walking in the field

And stir the wheat.

Men are so sad

Haven't seen them since birth;

They began to think and guess -

How to spy a thief;

Finally they realized

To stand on guard,

Save the bread at night,

To waylay the evil thief.

Just as it was getting dark,

The elder brother began to get ready:

Took out a pitchfork and an ax

And he went on patrol.

The stormy night has come,

Fear came over him

And out of fear our man

Buried under the hay.

The night passes, the day comes;

The sentinel leaves the hay

And, pouring water on myself,

He started knocking on the door:

“Hey you sleepy grouse!

Unlock the door for your brother

I got wet in the rain

From head to toe."

The brothers opened the doors

The guard was let in

They began to ask him:

Didn't he see anything?

The guard prayed

Bowed to the right, to the left

And, clearing his throat, he said:

“I didn’t sleep the whole night;

Unfortunately for me,

There was terrible bad weather:

The rain poured down like this,

I wet my shirt all over.

It was so boring!..

However, everything is fine."

His father praised him:

“You, Danilo, are great!

You are, so to speak, approximately,

Served me well,

That is, being with everything,

I didn’t lose face.”

It began to get dark again;

The middle brother went to get ready:

I took a pitchfork and an ax

And he went on patrol.

The cold night has come,

Trembling attacked the little one,

The teeth began to dance;

He started to run -

And I walked around all night

Under the neighbor's fence.

It was terrible for the young man!

But it's morning. He goes to the porch:

“Hey you, sleepyheads! Why are you sleeping?

Unlock the door for your brother;

There was a terrible frost at night, -

I'm frozen to my stomach."

The brothers opened the doors

The guard was let in

They began to ask him:

Didn't he see anything?

The guard prayed

Bowed to the right, to the left

And through clenched teeth he answered:

“I didn’t sleep all night,

Yes, to my unfortunate fate,

The cold was terrible at night,

It reached my heart;

I rode all night;

It was too awkward...

However, everything is fine."

And his father said to him:

“You, Gavrilo, are great!”

It began to get dark for the third time,

The younger one needs to get ready;

He doesn't even move,

Sings on the stove in the corner

With all your stupid urine:

“You are beautiful eyes!”

Brothers, blame him,

They began to drive into the field,

He's not moving. Finally

His father approached him

He tells him: “Listen,

Run on patrol, Vanyusha.

I'll buy you some splints

I’ll give you peas and beans.”

Here Ivan gets off the stove,

Malachai puts on his

He puts bread in his bosom,

The guard is on duty.

Ivan goes around the whole field,

Looking around

And sits down under a bush;

Counts the stars in the sky

Yes, he eats the edge.

Suddenly, about midnight, the horse neighed...

Our guard stood up,

Looked under the mitten

And I saw a mare.

That mare was

All white, like winter snow,

Mane to the ground, golden,

The rings are curled in chalk.

“Ehehe! so this is what it is

Our thief!.. But wait,

I don't know how to joke,

I’ll sit on your neck at once.

Look, what locusts!”

And, for a moment,

runs up to the mare,

Grabs the wavy tail

And he jumped onto her ridge -

Only backwards.

Young mare

With wildly sparkling eyes,

The snake twisted its head

And it took off like an arrow.

Hovering around the fields,

Hangs like a sheet above the ditches,

Leaping through the mountains,

Walks on end through the forests,

Wants by force or deception,

Just to cope with Ivan.

But Ivan himself is not simple -

Holds the tail tightly.

Finally she got tired.

“Well, Ivan,” she told him, “

If you knew how to sit,

So you can own me.

Give me a place to rest

Yes, look after me

How much do you understand? Yes look:

Three morning dawns

Set me free

Take a walk through an open field.

At the end of three days

I will give you two horses -

Yes, the same as today

There was no trace of it;

And I’ll also give birth to a horse

Only three inches tall,

On the back with two humps

Yes, with arshin ears.

Sell two horses if you like,

But don't give up your skate

Not by the belt, not by the hat,

Not for a black woman, hear me.

On the ground and underground

He will be your comrade:

He will warm you in winter,

In the summer it will be cold,

In times of famine he will treat you with bread,

When you're thirsty, you'll drink honey.

I'll go out into the field again

Try your strength in freedom.”

“Okay,” thinks Ivan.

And to the shepherd's booth

Drives the mare

The matting door closes

And as soon as it was dawn,

Goes to the village

Singing a song loudly:

“The good guy went to Presnya.”

Here he comes up to the porch,

Here he grabs the ring,

With all the strength there is knocking on the door,

The roof is almost falling in,

And shouts to the whole market,

It was like there was a fire.

The brothers jumped from the benches,

They stammered and cried:

“Who knocks so hard like that?” —

“It’s me, Ivan the Fool!”

The brothers opened the doors

They let a fool into the hut

And let's scold him, -

How dare he scare them like that!

And Ivan is ours, without taking off

Neither bast shoes, nor malakhai,

Goes to the oven

And he talks from there

About the night adventure,

To everyone's ears:

“I didn’t sleep all night,

I counted the stars in the sky;

The month, exactly, was also shining, -

I didn't notice much.

Suddenly the devil himself comes,

With a beard and mustache;

The face looks like a cat's

And the eyes are like little bowls!

So that devil started jumping

And knock down the grain with your tail.

I don't know how to joke -

And jump on his neck.

He was already dragging, dragging,

Almost broke my head

But I myself am not a failure,

Listen, he held him in a tight grip.

My cunning man fought and fought

And finally he begged:

“Don’t destroy me from the world!

A whole year for you for this

I promise to live peacefully

Don’t bother the Orthodox.”

Listen, I didn’t measure the words,

Yes, I believed the little devil.”

Here the narrator fell silent,

He yawned and dozed off.

Brothers, no matter how angry they were,

They couldn’t - they laughed

Grabbing your sides,

Over the fool's story.

The old man himself could not help himself,

So as not to laugh until you cry,

At least laugh - that's how it is

It's a sin for old people.

Is there too much time or not enough?

It has flown since this night, -

I don't care about that

I haven't heard from anyone.

Well, what does it matter to us,

Whether a year or two has flown by,

After all, you can’t run after them...

Let's continue the fairy tale.

Well, sir, so that's it! Raz Danilo

(On a holiday, I remember it was),

Stretched and drunk,

Dragged into a booth.

What does he see? — Beautiful

Two golden-maned horses

Yes, a toy skate

Only three inches tall,

On the back with two humps

Yes, with arshin ears.

"Hm! Now I found out

Why did the fool sleep here!” —

Danilo says to himself...

The miracle knocked down the hops at once;

Here Danilo is running into the house

And Gavrile says:

“Look how beautiful

Two golden-maned horses

Our fool got himself:

You haven’t even heard of it.”

And Danilo and Gavrilo,

What urine was in their feet,

Straight through the nettles

That's how they blow barefoot.

Stumbling three times

Having repaired both eyes,

Rubbing here and there

The brothers enter the two horses.

The horses neighed and snored,

The eyes burned like a yacht;

Curled into chalk rings,

The tail flowed golden,

And diamond hooves

Upholstered with large pearls.

Lovely to watch!

If only the king could sit on them!

The brothers looked at them like that,

Which almost got twisted.

“Where did he get them? —

The eldest said to the middle one. —

But the conversation has been going on for a long time,

That treasure is given only to fools,

At least break your forehead,

You won't get two rubles that way.

Well, Gavrilo, that week

Let's take them to the capital;

We'll sell it to the boyars there,

We'll split the money evenly.

And with the money, you know,

And you will drink and take a walk,

Just slap the bag.

And to the good fool

There won't be enough guesswork,

Where do his horses visit?

Let him look for them here and there.

Well, buddy, deal!”

The brothers agreed at once

We hugged and crossed ourselves

And returned home

Talking to each other

About horses and about the feast

And about a wonderful little animal.

Time rolls on,

Hour after hour, day after day.

And for the first week

The brothers are going to the capital city,

To sell your goods there

And at the pier you will find out

Didn't they come with ships?

The Germans are in the city for canvases

And is Tsar Saltan missing?

To fool Christians.

So we prayed to the icons,

Father was blessed

They took two horses secretly

And they set off quietly.

Evening was creeping towards night;

Ivan got ready for the night;

Walking down the street

He eats the crumb and sings.

Here he reaches the field,

Hands on hips

And with a spring, like a gentleman,

He enters the booth sideways.

Everything was still standing

But the horses were gone;

Just a hunchbacked toy

His legs were spinning,

Flapping his ears with joy

Yes, he danced with his feet.

How Ivan will howl here,

Leaning on the booth:

“Oh, you horses of Bor-Siva,

Good golden-maned horses!

Didn’t I caress you, friends?

Who the hell stole you?

Damn him, the dog!

To die in a gulley!

May he in the next world

Fail on the bridge!

Oh, you horses of Bura-Siva,

Good horses with golden manes!”

Then the horse neighed at him.

“Don’t worry, Ivan,” he said,

It's a big problem, I don't argue.

But I can help, I'm burning.

You didn't give a damn:

The brothers brought the horses together.

Well, what's the use of idle chatter?

Be at peace, Ivanushka.

Hurry up and sit on me

Just know yourself to hold on;

At least I'm small in stature,

Let me change the horse to another:

As soon as I set off and run,

That’s how I’ll overtake the demon.”

Here the horse lies down in front of him;

Ivan sits on his skate,

Rakes your ears,

That there are mochki roars.

The little humpbacked horse shook himself,

He stood up on his paws, perked up,

He clapped his mane and started snoring.

And he flew like an arrow;

Only in dusty clouds

A whirlwind swirled under our feet.

And in two moments, if not in an instant,

Our Ivan caught up with the thieves.

The brothers, that is, were afraid,

They itched and hesitated.

And Ivan began shouting to them:

“It’s a shame, brothers, to steal!

Even though you are smarter than Ivan,

Yes, Ivan is more honest than you:

He didn’t steal your horses.”

The elder, writhing, said:

“Our dear brother Ivasha,

What to do is our business!

But take it into account

Our belly is unselfish.

No matter how much wheat we sow,

We have a little daily bread.

And if the harvest fails,

So at least get into the noose!

In such great sadness

Gavrila and I were talking

All last night -

How can I help the grief?

This is how we did it,

Finally we decided this:

To sell your skates

Even for a thousand rubles.

And as a thank you, by the way,

Bring you a new one -

Red hat with a vertebra

Yes, boots with heels.

Besides, the old man can’t

Can no longer work;

But you have to wash your eyes, -

You yourself clever man!» —

“Well, if that’s the case, then go ahead,”

Ivan says, sell it

Two golden-maned horses,

Yes, take me too.”

The brothers glanced painfully at each other,

No way! agreed.

It began to get dark in the sky;

The air began to grow cold;

So that they don't get lost,

It was decided to stop.

Under the canopies of branches

They tied up all the horses,

They brought a basket with food,

Got a little hangover

And let's go, God willing,

Who is good at what?

Danilo suddenly noticed

That the fire lit up in the distance.

He looked at Gavrila,

Winked with his left eye

And he coughed lightly,

Pointing the fire quietly;

Here I scratched my head,

“Oh, how dark! - He said. —

At least a month like that as a joke

He looked at us for a minute,

Everything would be easier. And now,

Really, we are worse than aunts...

Wait a minute... it seems to me

That light smoke curls there...

You see, Avon!.. It is so!..

I wish I could light a cigarette!

It would be a miracle!.. And listen,

Run, brother Vanyusha!

And, I must admit, I have

No flint, no flint."

Danilo himself thinks:

“May you be crushed there!”

And Gavrilo says:

“Who knows what’s burning!

Since the villagers have arrived

Remember him by his name!”

All is nothing to a fool.

He sits on his skate

Kicks the sides with his feet,

Tugging at him with his hands

Screaming with all his might...

The horse took off and the trail disappeared.

“Godfather be with us! —

Then Gavrilo shouted,

Protected by the holy cross. —

What kind of demon is under him!

The flame burns brighter

The little hunchback runs faster.

Here he is in front of the fire.

The field shines as if it were day;

A wonderful light flows all around,

But it doesn’t heat up, it doesn’t smoke.

Ivan was amazed here.

“What,” he said, “what kind of devil is this!”

There are about five hats in the world,

But there is no heat and no smoke;

Eco miracle light!

The horse tells him:

“There really is something to marvel at!

Here lies the feather of the Firebird,

But for your happiness

Don't take it for yourself.

Much, much restlessness

It will bring it with it." —

"You speak! How wrong!” —

The fool grumbles to himself;

And, raising the feather of the Firebird,

Wrapped him in rags

I put rags in my hat

And he turned his skate.

Here he comes to his brothers

And he answers their demand:

“How did I get there?

I saw a burnt stump;

I fought and fought over him,

So I almost got fed up;

I fanned it for an hour -

No, damn it, it’s gone!”

The brothers didn't sleep the whole night,

They laughed at Ivan;

And Ivan sat down under the cart,

He snored until the morning.

Here they harnessed the horses

And they came to the capital,

We stood in a row of horses,

Opposite the large chambers.

In that capital there was a custom:

If the mayor does not say -

Don't buy anything

Don't sell anything.

Now mass is coming;

The mayor leaves

In shoes, in a fur hat,

With a hundred city guards.

A herald rides next to him,

Long mustache, bearded;

"Guests! Open the shops

Buy, sell.

And the overseers sit

Near the shops and look,

So that there is no sodomy,

No violence, no pogrom,

And so that no one is a freak

I didn’t deceive the people!”

Guests open the shop,

The baptized people cry out:

"Hey, honest gentlemen,

Come join us here!

How are our container bars?

All sorts of different goods!”

Buyers are coming

The goods are taken from the guests;

Guests count money

Yes, the supervisors are blinking.

Meanwhile, the city detachment

Arrives in a row of horses;

Looks - a crush of people.

There is no exit or entrance;

So they're swarming,

And they laugh and scream.

The mayor was surprised

That the people were cheerful,

And he gave the order to the detachment,

To clear the way.

"Hey! you barefoot devils!

Get out of my way! get out of my way!"

The barbels screamed

And they hit the whips.

Here the people began to stir,

He took off his hats and stepped aside.

There is a row of horses before your eyes;

Two horses stand in a row

Young, black,

Golden manes curl,

Curled into chalk rings,

The tail flows golden...

Our old man, no matter how ardent he was,

He rubbed the back of his head for a long time.

“Wonderful,” he said, “God’s light,

There are no miracles in it!”

The whole squad bowed here,

I marveled at the wise speech.

Meanwhile the mayor

He punished everyone severely

So that they don’t buy horses,

They didn’t yawn, they didn’t scream;

That he is going to the yard

Report everything to the king.

And, leaving part of the detachment,

He went to report.

Arrives at the palace.

“Have mercy, Tsar Father!”

The mayor exclaims

And his whole body falls. —

They didn't order me to be executed

Order me to speak!”

The king deigned to say: “Okay,

Speak, but it’s just awkward.” —

“I’ll tell you as best I can:

I serve the mayor;

By faith and truth I am correcting

This position...” - “I know, I know!” —

“Today, having taken a detachment,

I went to the horse row.

I arrive - there are tons of people!

Well, no exit, no entrance.

What to do here?.. Ordered

Drive the people out so as not to interfere.

And so it happened, king-hope!

And I went - and what?

In front of me is a row of horses;

Two horses stand in a row

Young, black,

Golden manes curl,

Curled into chalk rings,

The tail flows golden,

And diamond hooves

Upholstered with large pearls.”

The king could not sit here.

“We need to look at the horses,”

He says, “It’s not bad”

And having such a miracle.

Hey, give me the cart!” And so

The cart is already at the gate.

The king washed and dressed up

And off he went to the market;

Behind the king of the archers is a detachment.

Here he rode into a row of horses.

Everyone here fell to their knees

And they shouted “hurray” to the king.

The king bowed and instantly

Well done jumping off the wagon...

He doesn’t take his eyes off his horses,

From the right, from the left he comes to them,

With a kind word he calls,

It hits them quietly on the back,

Ruffles their steep neck,

Strokes the golden mane,

And, having looked at it for a long time,

He asked, turning around

To those around: “Hey, guys!

Whose foals are these?

Who's the boss? Ivan is here,

Hands on hips like a gentleman

Because of the brothers he acts

And, pouting, he answers:

“This couple, king, is mine,

And the owner is me too.” —

“Well, I’m buying a pair!

Are you selling? - “No, I’m changing it.” —

“What good do you take in exchange?” —

"Two to five caps of silver." —

“That is, it will be ten.”

The king immediately ordered to weigh

And, by my grace,

He gave me an extra five rubles.

The king was generous!

Led the horses to the stables

Ten gray grooms,

All in gold stripes,

All with colored sashes

And with morocco whips.

But dear, as if for a laugh,

The horses knocked them all off their feet,

All the bridles were torn

And they ran to Ivan.

The king went back

He tells him: “Well, brother,

Our couple is not given;

There's nothing to do, you have to

To serve you in the palace.

You will walk in gold

Dress up in a red dress,

It's like rolling cheese in butter,

My entire stable

I give you an order,

The royal word is a guarantee.

What, do you agree?” - “What a thing!

I will live in the palace

I will walk in gold

Dress up in a red dress,

It's like rolling cheese in butter,

The entire stables

The king gives me an order;

That is, I'm from the garden

I will become a royal commander.

Wonderful thing! So be it

I will, king, serve you.

Just don't fight me, please.

And let me sleep

Otherwise I was like that!”

Then he called the horses

And he walked along the capital,

Waving my mitten myself,

And to the song of a fool

The horses dance the trepak;

And his horse is humpbacked -

So it’s bursting squatted,

To the surprise of everyone.

Meanwhile, two brothers

The royal money was received

They were sewn into girdles,

Knocked on the valley

And we went home.

They shared the house together

They both got married at the same time

They began to live and live

Yes, remember Ivan.

But now we will leave them,

Let's have fun with a fairy tale again

Orthodox Christians,

What has our Ivan done?

While in the royal service,

At the state stable;

How did he become a neighbor?

Like I slept through my pen,

How cunningly he caught the Firebird,

How he kidnapped the Tsar Maiden,

How he went for the ring,

How I was an ambassador in heaven,

How is he in the sunny village

Kitu begged for forgiveness;

How, among other things,

He saved thirty ships;

How was it not cooked in the cauldrons?

How handsome he became;

In a word: our speech is about

How he became king.

PART TWO

the story begins

From the Ivanovs' pranks,

And from sivka, and from burka,

And from the prophetic hammer.

The goats are gone to the sea;

The mountains are overgrown with forest;

The horse broke from the golden bridle,

Rising straight towards the sun;

Forest standing under your feet,

To the side is a thunder cloud;

A cloud walks and sparkles,

Thunder scatters across the sky.

This is a saying: wait,

The fairy tale will be ahead.

Like on the sea-ocean

And on Buyan Island

There is a new coffin in the forest,

The girl lies in the coffin;

The nightingale whistles over the coffin;

A black beast prowls in the oak grove,

This is a saying, but here it is -

The fairy tale will take its course.

Well, you see, laymen,

Orthodox Christians

Our daring fellow

He wormed his way into the palace;

Serves at the royal stables

And it won’t bother you at all

It's about brothers, about father

In the sovereign's palace.

And what does he care about his brothers?

Ivan has red dresses,

Red hats, boots

Almost ten boxes;

He eats sweetly, he sleeps so much,

What freedom, and that’s all!

Here in about five weeks

I started to notice the sleeping bag...

I must say, this sleeping bag

Before Ivan there was a boss

Above the entire stable,

From the boyars he was reputed to be children;

It's no wonder he was angry

I swore against Ivan,

Even if there is an abyss, there is an alien

Get out of the palace.

But, hiding deceit,

It's for every occasion

The rogue pretended to be deaf,

Myopic and dumb;

He himself thinks: “Wait a minute,

I’ll move you, you idiot!”

So in about five weeks

The sleeping bag began to notice

That Ivan doesn’t care for horses,

And he doesn’t clean, and he doesn’t school;

But for all that, two horses

As if only from under the ridge:

Washed clean,

The manes are twisted into braids,

The bangs are collected in a bun,

The wool, well, is as shiny as silk;

There is fresh wheat in the stalls,

As if he would be born right there,

And the big vats are full

As if it had just been poured.

“What kind of parable is this? —

The sleeping bag thinks while sighing. —

Isn't he walking, wait?

A prankish brownie is coming to us?

Let me keep watch

And anyway, I shoot a bullet,

Without blinking, I know how to drain, -

If only the fool would leave.

I will report to the royal Duma,

What is the state's stablemaster -

Basurmanin, witch,

Warlock and Villain;

Why is he sharing bread and salt with the demon?

Doesn't go to God's church

Catholic holding a cross

And he eats meat during fasting.”

That same evening this sleeping bag,

Former stablemaster

Hid secretly in the stalls

And covered himself in oats.

It's midnight.

There was a ache in his chest:

He lies neither alive nor dead,

He does all the prayers himself.

Waiting for a neighbor... Chu! in fact,

The doors creaked dully,

The horses stamped, and lo and behold

An old horse guide enters.

The door is locked with a latch,

Carefully takes off his hat,

He puts it on the window

And he takes it from that hat

In three wrapped rags

The royal treasure is the feather of the Firebird.

Such a light shone here,

That the sleeping bag almost cried out,

And I was so terrified of fear,

That the oats fell off him.

But my neighbor has no idea!

He puts the pen in the bottom,

He begins to brush the horses,

Washing, cleaning,

Weaves long manes,

Sings different songs.

Meanwhile, curled up in a club,

Tapping the tooth

He looks at the sleeping bag, a little alive,

What is the brownie doing here?

What a demon! Something on purpose

The midnight rogue dressed up:

No horns, no beard,

What a cool guy!

The hair is smooth, on the side of the tape,

There are prose on the shirt,

Boots like al morocco, -

Well, definitely Ivan.

What a miracle? Looks again

Our eye on the brownie...

“Eh! so that's it! - finally

The sly man grumbled to himself,

Okay, tomorrow the king will find out

What is your stupid mind hiding?

Just wait one day

You will remember me!”

And Ivan, not knowing at all,

Why is he in such trouble?

Threatens, weaves everything

Let him sing with his manes in braids.

And having removed them, into both vats

Strained the full honey

And poured more

Beloyarova millet.

Here, yawning, the Firebird's feather

Wrapped again in rags,

Put a hat under your ear and lie down

Near the horses' hind legs.

It's just starting to get bright,

The sleeping bag began to move,

And, hearing that Ivan

He snores like Eruslan,

He quietly climbs down

And creeps up to Ivan,

I put my fingers in my hat,

Grab the pen and the trace is gone.

The king had just awakened

Our sleeping bag came to him,

Hit his forehead hard on the floor

And then he sang to the king:

“I am resigned,

The king has appeared before you,

They didn't order me to be executed

Order me to speak." —

“Speak without adding,”

The king told him yawning.

If you lie,

You can’t escape the whip.”

Our sleeping bag, having gathered its strength,

He says to the king: “Have mercy!

These are the true Christ,

My denunciation, king, is fair.

Our Ivan, everyone knows

Father is hiding from you

But not gold, not silver -

Firebird feather..." -

“Zharoptitsevo?.. Damned!

And he dared to be so rich...

Wait, you villain!

You will not escape the lashes!..” -

“And what else does he know! —

The sleeping bag continues quietly

Bent over. - Welcome!

Let him have a pen;

And the Firebird itself

In your bright room, father,

If you would like to give an order,

He boasts of getting it.”

And the informer with this word,

Huddled with a tall hoop,

Came up to the bed

He handed over the treasure - and again on the floor.

The king looked and marveled,

Stroked his beard and laughed

And he bit the end of the feather.

Here, having put it in a casket,

Screamed (out of impatience),

Confirming your command

With a quick wave of the fist:

“Hey! call me a fool!

And the nobles' messengers

We ran along Ivan,

But, having all collided in the corner,

Stretched out on the floor.

The king admired it a lot

And he laughed until he burst into tears.

And the nobles, seeing

What is funny for a king,

They winked at each other

And suddenly they stretched out.

The king was so pleased with this,

That he rewarded them with a hat.

The nobles' messengers are here

They started calling Ivan again

And this time already

We managed without mischief.

Here they come running to the stables,

The doors open wide

And kicking the fool

Well, push in all directions.

They fiddled with it for half an hour,

But they didn’t wake him up.

Finally a private

I woke him up with a broom.

“What kind of servants are these here? —

Ivan says getting up. —

How I grab you with a whip,

You won’t do that later

There is no way to wake up Ivan.”

The nobles tell him:

"The king deigned to order

We should call you to him.” —

“Tsar?.. Well, okay! I'll get ready

And I will appear to him immediately,”

Ivan speaks to the ambassadors.

Then he put on his caftan,

I tied myself with a girdle,

I washed my face, combed my hair,

I attached my whip to the side,

Like a duck swam.

So Ivan appeared to the king,

Bowed, cheered,

He grunted twice and asked:

“Why did you wake me up?”

The king, squinting his left eye,

Screamed at him with anger,

Standing up: “Silence!

You must answer me:

By virtue of which decree

You hid our eyes from us

Our royal goods -

Firebird feather?

Am I a king or a boyar?

Answer now, Tatar!”

Here Ivan, waving his hand,

He says to the king: “Wait!

I didn’t exactly give those hats,

How did you find out about this?

What are you - are you even a prophet?

Well, so what, put me in prison,

Give the order now at least to the sticks -

There is no pen, and not even a scribbler!..” -

“Answer! I’ll screw it up!..” -

“I really tell you:

No pen! Yes, hear where from

Should I get such a miracle?

The king jumped out of bed

And he opened the casket with the feather.

"What? Do you dare to move yet?

No, you can't get away with it!

What's this? A?" Ivan is here

Trembling like a leaf in a storm,

He dropped his hat in fright.

“What, buddy, is it tight? —

The king spoke. - Wait a minute, brother!..” -

“Oh, for mercy’s sake, I’m guilty!

Let go of the blame to Ivan,

I won’t lie in advance.”

And, wrapped up in the floor,

Stretched out on the floor.

"Well, for the first time

I forgive you your guilt, -

The Tsar speaks to Ivan. —

I, God have mercy, am angry!

And sometimes from hearts

I'll take off my forelock and head.

So, you see, this is what I am like!

But, to say without further words,

I found out that you are the Firebird

To our royal room,

If you wanted to order,

You boast to get it.

Well, look, don't deny it

And try to get it.”

Here Ivan jumped up like a top.

“I didn’t say that! —

He screamed, wiping himself. —

Oh, I don’t lock myself away,

But about the bird, as you wish,

You are lying in vain."

The king, shaking his beard:

"What? Dress me up with you! —

He shouted. - But look,

If you're three weeks old

Can't you get me the Firebird?

To our royal room,

Then, I swear by my beard,

You will pay with me:

Get out, slave! Ivan cried

And he went to the hayloft,

Where his hobby lay.

Little hunchback, I smell him,

The dance began to shake;

But when I saw tears,

I almost burst into tears myself.

“What, Ivanushka, are you unhappy?

Why did you hang your head? —

The horse tells him,

His legs are spinning. —

Don't hide from me

Tell me everything that’s behind your soul.

I'm ready to help you.

Al, my dear, are you unwell?

Has Al fallen into the hands of a villain?

Ivan fell on the skate on his neck,

Hugged and kissed.

“Oh, trouble, horse! - said. —

The king orders to get the Firebird

To the state room.

What should I do, little hunchback?”

The horse tells him:

“It’s a great misfortune, I don’t argue;

But I can help, I'm burning.

That's why you're in trouble,

What didn't listen to me:

Do you remember, going to the capital city,

You found the Firebird's feather;

I told you then:

Don't take it, Ivan, it's a disaster!

Much, much restlessness

It will bring it with it.

Now you know

Did I tell you the truth?

But, to tell you out of friendship,

This is a service, not a service;

The service is all ahead, brother.

Now go to the king

And tell him openly:

“I need, king, I need two troughs

Beloyarova millet

Yes, overseas wine.

Yes, tell me to hurry up:

Tomorrow, it’s just going to be a mess,

We'll go on a hike."

Here Ivan goes to the Tsar,

He tells him openly:

“I need, king, I need two troughs

Beloyarova millet

Yes, overseas wine.

Yes, tell me to hurry up:

Tomorrow, it’s just going to be a mess,

We'll go hiking."

The king immediately gives the order,

So that the messengers of the nobles

They found everything for Ivan,

Called him a good guy

And “bon voyage!” said.

The next day, early in the morning,

Ivan's horse woke up:

“Hey! Master! Get some sleep!

It’s time to fix things!”

Here Ivanushka got up,

I was going on a journey,

I took the trough and the millet,

And overseas wine;

Dressed up warmer

He sat down on his skate,

He took out a slice of bread

And went east -

Get that Firebird.

They travel for a whole week,

Finally, on the eighth day,

They arrive in a dense forest.

Then the horse said to Ivan:

“You will see a clearing here;

In that clearing there is a mountain

All made of pure silver;

Here it is before the lightning

The firebirds are arriving

Drink water from a stream;

This is where we’ll catch them.”

And, having finished his speech to Ivan,

Runs out into the clearing.

What a field! The greenery is here

Like an emerald stone;

The wind blows over her,

So it sows sparks;

And the flowers are green

Inexpressible beauty.

Is it in that clearing,

Like a shaft on the ocean,

The mountain rises

All made of pure silver.

Sun in summer rays

Paints it all with dawn,

Runs like gold in the folds,

There is a candle burning on the top.

Here's a skate along the slope

Climbed this mountain

I ran a mile to a friend,

He stood his ground and said:

“Soon the night, Ivan, will begin,

And you will have to guard.

Well, pour wine into the trough

And mix millet with wine.

And to be closed to you,

You crawl under that trough,

Take note quietly

Yes, look, don’t yawn.

Before sunrise, hear the lightning

Firebirds will fly here

And they will begin to peck the millet

Yes, in your own way, scream.

You, who is closer,

And grab her, look!

And if you catch a bird,

And shout to the whole market;

I will come to you immediately."

“Well, what if I get burned?”

Ivan says to the horse,

Spreading out your caftan. —

You will have to take mittens:

Tea, the cheat stings painfully.”

Then the horse disappeared from my eyes,

And Ivan, groaning, crawled up

Under the oak trough

And he lies there like a dead man.

Sometimes it's midnight

The light spilled over the mountain -

As if noon is coming:

The firebirds swoop in;

They started running and screaming

And peck the millet with wine.

Our Ivan, closed from them,

Looks at the birds from under the trough

And he talks to himself,

Moving your hand like this:

“Ugh, devilish power!

Oh, the rubbish, they're gone!

Tea, there are about five dozen of them here.

To take over everyone, -

That would be a good time!

Needless to say, fear is beautiful!

Everyone has red legs;

And the tails are a real laugh!

Tea, chickens don’t have those.

And how much, boy, is the light,

Like a father’s oven!”

And, having finished such a speech,

With myself under the loophole,

Our Ivan like a snake and a snake

He crawled towards the millet and wine, -

Grab one of the birds by the tail.

“Oh, Little Humpbacked Little Konechek!

Come running quickly, my friend!

“I caught the bird,”

So Ivan the Fool shouted.

The little hunchback immediately appeared.

“Oh, master, you’ve distinguished yourself! —

The horse tells him. —

Well, quickly put it in the bag!

Yes, tie it tighter;

And hang the bag around your neck.

We need to Return trip». —

“No, let me scare the birds!

Ivan says. - Check this out,

Look, you're tired of screaming!"

And, grabbing your bag,

It whips along and across.

Sparkling with a bright flame,

The whole flock started up,

Twisted around in a fiery circle

And it rushed beyond the clouds.

And our Ivan follows them

With your mittens

So he waves and shouts,

As if doused with lye.

The birds were lost in the clouds;

Our travelers have gathered

The royal treasure was laid out

And they came back.

We've arrived in the capital.

“What, did you get the Firebird?” —

The Tsar says to Ivan,

He looks at the sleeping bag himself.

And that one, just out of boredom,

I bit all my hands.

“Of course, I got it,”

Our Ivan told the king.

“Where is she?” - “Wait a little,

Order the window first

Shut the bedroom,

You know, to create darkness.”

Then the nobles ran

And the window was closed.

Here is Ivan's bag on the table:

“Come on, grandma, let’s go!”

Such a light suddenly spilled out here,

That the whole yard was covered with a hand.

The king shouts to the whole market:

“Oh hot, fathers, there’s a fire!

Hey, call the bars!

Fill it up! Fill it up!” —

“This, hear me, is not a fire,

This is the light from the bird-heat, -

Said the hunter, laughing himself

Struggling. — Fun

I brought those, sir!”

The Tsar says to Ivan:

“I love my friend Vanyusha!

You made my soul happy,

And to such joy -

Be the royal stepladder!”

Seeing this, a cunning sleeping bag,

Former stablemaster

He says under his breath:

“No, wait, milksucker!

It won't always happen to you

So candidly distinguish yourself.

I'll let you down again

My friend, you're in trouble!

Three weeks later

In the evening we sat alone

Chefs in the royal kitchen

And the servants of the court;

Drinking honey from a jug

Yes, you read Eruslan.

“Eh! - one servant said, -

How did I get this today?

A miracle book from a neighbor!

It doesn't have too many pages,

And there are only five fairy tales,

And let me tell you the fairy tales,

So you can’t be surprised;

You have to manage this way!”

Tell me, brother, tell me!” —

“Well, which one do you want?

There are five fairy tales; look here:

The first tale about the beaver,

And the second is about the king;

The third... God forbid... exactly!

About the eastern noblewoman;

Here in the fourth: Prince Bobyl;

In the fifth... in the fifth... oh, I forgot!

The fifth tale says...

That’s what’s going on in my mind...”

“Well, leave her!” - “Wait!” —

“About a beauty, what, what?” —

“Exactly! The fifth says

About the beautiful Tsar Maiden.

Well, which one, friends?

Shall I tell you today? —

“Tsar Maiden! - everyone shouted. —

We've already heard about kings,

We need some beauties soon!

It’s more fun to listen to them.”

And the servant, sitting down importantly,

He began to talk drawlingly:

"In distant German countries

There is an okiyan, guys.

Is it according to the okyan

Only infidels travel;

From the Orthodox land

Never been

Neither nobles nor laymen

On a filthy okiyan.

The rumor comes from the guests,

That the girl lives there;

But the girl is not simple,

Daughter, you see, dear to the month,

And the sun is her brother.

That girl they say

Rides in a red sheepskin coat,

In a golden boat, guys.

And with a silver oar

He personally rules in it;

Sings different songs

And he plays the harp..."

The sleeping bag is here as quickly as possible -

And from both feet

He went to the king's palace

And he just appeared to him;

Hit his forehead hard on the floor

And then he sang to the king:

“I am resigned,

The king has appeared before you,

They didn't order me to be executed

Order me to speak!” —

“Tell only the truth,

And don’t lie, look, not at all!” —

The king screamed from his bed.

The cunning sleeping bag replied:

“We were in the kitchen today,

They drank to your health,

And one of the court servants

He amused us with a fairy tale out loud;

This fairy tale says

About the beautiful Tsar Maiden.

Here is your royal stirrup

I swore by your brotherhood,

That he knows this bird -

So he called the Tsar Maiden, -

And you want to know her,

He boasts of getting it.”

The sleeping bag hit the floor again.

“Hey, call me Stremnov!” —

The king shouted to the messenger.

The sleeping bag stood behind the stove here.

And the messengers of the nobles

They ran along Ivan;

They found him in a sound sleep

And they brought me in a shirt.

The king began his speech like this: “Listen,

There's a denunciation against you, Vanyusha.

They say that now

You boasted to us

Find another bird

That is to say, the Tsar Maiden..." -

“What are you, what are you, God bless you! —

The royal stepladder began. —

Tea, I’m waking up, I’m interpreting,

I threw this one away.

Yes, be as cunning as you like,

But you can’t fool me.”

The king, shaking his beard:

"What? Should I dress up with you? —

He shouted. - But look,

If you're three weeks old

You can't get the Tsar Maiden

To our royal room,

Then, I swear by my beard!

You will pay me!

To the right - to the bars - to the stake!

Get out, slave! Ivan cried

And he went to the hayloft,

Where his hobby lay.

“What, Ivanushka, are you unhappy?

Why did you hang your head? —

The horse tells him. —

Al, my dear, are you sick?

Has Al fallen into the hands of a villain?

Ivan fell on the skate on his neck,

Hugged and kissed.

“Oh, trouble, horse! - said. —

The king orders into his little room

I need to get, listen, the Tsar Maiden.

What should I do, little hunchback?”

The horse tells him:

“It’s a great misfortune, I don’t argue;

But I can help, I'm burning.

That's why you're in trouble,

That he didn't listen to me.

But, to tell you out of friendship,

This is a service, not a service;

All service, brother, is ahead!

Now go to the king

And say: “After all, for the capture

I need, king, two flies,

Gold embroidered tent

Yes, dining set -

All the overseas jam -

And some sweets to cool off,”

Here Ivan goes to the Tsar

And he speaks like this:

"For the princess's capture

I need, king, two flies,

Gold embroidered tent

Yes, dining set -

All the overseas jam -

And some sweets to cool off.” —

“It would have been like this a long time ago, rather than not,”

The king from the bed gave the answer

And he ordered that the nobles

They found everything for Ivan,

Called him a good guy

And “bon voyage!” said.

The next day, early in the morning,

Ivan's horse woke up:

“Hey! Master! Get some sleep!

It’s time to fix things!”

Here Ivanushka got up,

I was going on a journey,

I took my flies and a tent

Yes, dining set -

All the overseas jam -

And sweets to cool off;

I put everything in a travel bag

And tied it with a rope,

Dressed up warmer

He sat down on his skate;

He took out a slice of bread

And went east

Or the Tsar Maiden.

They travel for a whole week,

Finally, on the eighth day,

They arrive in a dense forest.

Then the horse said to Ivan:

“This is the road to the okiyan,

And on it all year round

That beauty lives;

She only leaves twice

From the okiyana and leads

A long day to land with us.

You’ll see for yourself tomorrow.”

AND; Having finished speaking to Ivan,

Runs out to the okiyan,

On which the white shaft

I was walking alone.

Here Ivan gets off his skate,

And the horse tells him:

“Well, pitch the tent,

Place the device on the fly

From overseas jam

And some sweets to cool off.

Lie down behind the tent yourself

Yes, be brave with your mind.

See the boat flashing by...

Then the princess swims up.

Let her enter the tent,

Let him eat and drink;

Here's how he plays the harp -

Know that the time is coming.

You immediately run into the tent,

Grab that princess

And hold her tight

Yes, call me quickly.

I'm on your first order

I’ll come running to you just in time;

And let's go... Yes, look,

Look closely at her;

If you oversleep her,

You can’t avoid trouble this way.”

Here the horse disappeared from sight,

Ivan hid behind the tent

And let the dir twirl,

To spy on the princess.

Clear afternoon arrives;

The Tsar Maiden swims up,

Enters the tent with a harp

And he sits down at the device.

"Hm! So this is the Tsar Maiden!

As they say in fairy tales,

Reasons with a stirrup, -

What's so red

The Tsar Maiden, so wonderful!

This one is not pretty at all:

And pale and thin,

Tea, about three inches in girth;

And the little leg, the little leg!

Ugh! like a chicken!

Let someone love you

I won’t take it for nothing.”

Here the princess began to play

And she chanted so sweetly,

That Ivan, not knowing how,

He falls asleep peacefully.

The West was quietly burning down.

Suddenly the horse neighed above him

“Sleep, my dear, to the star!

Pour out your troubles

It’s not me who will be impaled!”

Then Ivanushka began to cry

And, sobbing, he asked,

So that the horse forgives him:

“Let Ivan off the hook,

I won’t sleep ahead.” —

“Well, God will forgive you! —

The little hunchback shouts to him. —

We'll fix everything, maybe

Just don't fall asleep;

Tomorrow, early in the morning,

To the gold-embroidered tent

The girl will come again

Drink some sweet honey.

If you fall asleep again,

You won’t blow your head off.”

Here the horse disappeared again;

And Ivan started collecting

Sharp stones and nails

From broken ships

In order to get pricked,

If he takes a nap again.

The next day, in the morning,

To the gold-embroidered tent

The Tsar Maiden swims up,

The boat is thrown ashore,

Enters the tent with a harp

And sits down at the device...

Here the princess began to play

And she chanted so sweetly,

What's wrong with Ivanushka again?

I wanted to sleep.

“No, wait, you trashy one! —

Ivan says getting up. —

You won't go anywhere else

And you won’t fool me.”

Then Ivan runs into the tent,

The braid is long enough...

“Oh, run, little horse, run!

My little hunchback, help!”

Instantly the horse appeared to him.

“Oh, master, you’ve distinguished yourself!

Well, sit down quickly

Yes, hold it tight!”

It reaches the capital.

The king runs out to the princess,

He takes you by the white hands,

Leads her to the palace

And sits down at the oak table

And under the silk curtain,

He looks into your eyes with tenderness,

Sweet speech says:

"Peerless girl,

Agree to be a queen!

I barely saw you -

He seethed with intense passion.

Your falcon eyes

They won't let me sleep in the middle of the night

And in broad daylight -

Oh! are tormenting me.

Say a kind word!

Everything is ready for the wedding;

Tomorrow morning, my dear,

Let's get married to you

And let’s start living happily ever after.”

And the princess is young,

Without saying anything

She turned away from the king.

The king was not at all angry,

But I fell in love even more deeply;

I knelt before her,

Hands gently shook

And the balusters began again:

“Say a kind word!

How have I upset you?

Ali because you fell in love?

“Oh, my fate is deplorable!”

The princess tells him:

"If you want to take me,

Then deliver it to me in three days

My ring is made of okiyan.” —

“Hey! Call Ivan to me!” —

The king hastily shouted

And he almost ran.

So Ivan appeared to the king,

The king turned to him

And he said to him: “Ivan!

Go to Okiyan;

The volume is stored in the okiyan

Ring, hear you, Tsar-Maiden.

If you get it for me,

I’ll give you everything.” -

“I’m from the first road

I am dragging my feet;

You’re off to hell again!” —

Ivan speaks to the Tsar.

“Why, you rascal, take your time:

See, I want to get married! —

The king shouted in anger

And he kicked his feet. —

Don't deny me

Hurry up and go!”

Here Ivan wanted to go.

“Hey, listen! Along the way -

The queen tells him,

Come and take a bow

In my emerald chamber

Yes, tell my dear:

Her daughter wants to know her

Why is she hiding?

Three nights, three days

Is your face clear from me?

And why is my brother red

Wrapped up in stormy darkness

And in the foggy heights

Won't you send a beam to me?

Don’t forget!” - “I will remember,

Unless I forget;

Yes, you need to find out

Who are the brothers, who are the mothers,

So that we don’t get lost in our family.”

The queen tells him:

“The month is my mother, the sun is my brother” -

“Yes, look, three days ago!” —

The Tsar Groom added to this.

Here Ivan left the Tsar

And he went to the hayloft,

Where his hobby lay.

“What, Ivanushka, are you unhappy?

Why did you hang your head? —

The horse tells him.

“Help me, little hunchback!

You see, the king decided to get married,

You know, on the thin queen,

So he sends it to the okiyan, -

Ivan says to the horse. —

He only gave me three days;

Please try here

Get the devil's ring!

Yes, she told me to stop by

This thin queen

Somewhere in the mansion to bow

The Sun, the Moon, and

And ask about something..."

Here is the strong point: “Say in friendship,

This is a service, not a service;

All service, brother, is ahead!

Go to bed now;

And the next morning, early in the morning,

We will go to the okiyan."

The next day our Ivan,

Taking three onions in my pocket,

Dressed up warmer

He sat down on his skate

And went on a long journey...

Give me a rest, brothers!

PART THREE

a-ra-rali, ta-ra-ra!

The horses came out of the yard;

The peasants caught them

Yes, they tied it tighter.

A raven sits on an oak tree,

He plays the trumpet;

Like playing a trumpet,

The Orthodox are amused:

“Hey, listen, honest people!

Once upon a time there lived a husband and wife;

The husband will start making jokes,

And the wife for jokes,

And they will have a feast here,

What about the whole baptized world!

This is a saying,

The tale will then begin.

Like ours at the gate

The fly sings a song:

“What news will you give me?

Mother-in-law hits her daughter-in-law:

I planted it on a pole,

Tied by a cord,

I pulled my arms to my legs,

Take off the right leg:

“Don’t walk at dawn!

Don’t appear to be great!”

This was a saying,

And so the fairy tale began.

Well, this is how our Ivan goes

Behind the ring on the okiyan.

The little hunchback flies like the wind,

And at the start of the first evening

I covered a hundred thousand versts

And I didn’t rest anywhere.

Approaching the okiyan,

The horse says to Ivan:

“Well, Ivanushka, look,

Here in about three minutes

We will come to the clearing -

Straight to the ocean-sea;

lies across it

Miracle Yudo fish-whale;

He has been suffering for ten years now,

And he still doesn’t know

How to receive forgiveness;

He will teach you to ask

May you be in a sunny village

I asked him for forgiveness;

You promise to fulfill

Yes, look, don’t forget!”

They're entering the clearing

Straight to the ocean-sea;

lies across it

Miracle Yudo fish-whale.

All its sides are torn,

Palisades driven into the ribs,

The fuss is noisy on the tail,

The village stands on its back;

The men are plowing on the lip,

The boys are dancing between the eyes,

And in the oak grove, between the mustaches,

The girls are looking for mushrooms.

Here's a horse running over a whale,

A hoof hits the bones.

Miracle Yudo fish-whale

That's what he says to passers-by,

Opening my mouth wide,

Sighing heavily, bitterly:

“The way is the way, gentlemen!

Where are you from and where are you going?” —

“We are ambassadors from the Tsar Maiden,

We are both traveling from the capital, -

The horse says to the whale,

Towards the sun due east,

Into golden mansions." —

“Isn’t it possible, dear fathers,

Ask the sun for you:

How long will I be in disgrace?

And for some sins

Am I suffering troubles and torments? —

“Okay, okay, whale fish!” —

Our Ivan shouts to him.

“Be a merciful father to me!

See how I suffer, poor thing!

I've been lying here for ten years...

I’ll serve them myself!..” -

Kit Ivana begs,

He himself sighs bitterly.

“Okay, okay, whale fish!” —

Our Ivan shouts to him.

Then the horse began to clog under him,

Jumped ashore - and set off,

You can just see it like sand

It swirls around your feet.

Are they traveling close or far?

Do they go low or high?

And did they see anyone -

I do not know anything.

Soon the tale will be told

Things are going slow.

Only, brothers, I found out

That the horse ran in there,

Where (I heard from the side)

The sky meets the earth,

Where peasant women spin flax,

The spinning wheels are placed in the sky.

Here Ivan said goodbye to the earth

And I found myself in heaven

And he rode off like a prince,

Hat on side, cheering up.

“Eco miracle! eco marvel!

Our kingdom is at least beautiful, -

Ivan says to the horse.

Among the azure glades, -

How can it compare with the sky?

So it’s not suitable for an insole.

What is the earth!.. after all, it

And black and dirty;

Here the earth is blue,

And how bright!..

Look, little hunchback,

You see, over there, to the east,

Like lightning is glowing...

Tea, heavenly light...

Something is painfully high!” —

So Ivan asked the horse.

“This is the tower of the Tsar Maiden,

Our future queen, -

The little hunchback shouts to him,

At night the sun sleeps here,

And at midday

The month is coming for peace.”

They arrive; at the gate

There is a crystal vault made of pillars;

All those pillars are curled

Cunningly with golden snakes;

There are three stars on the tops,

There are gardens around the tower;

On the silver branches there

In gilded cages

Birds of paradise live

They sing royal songs.

But there are towers with towers

Like a city with villages;

And on the tower of stars -

Orthodox Russian cross.

Now a horse enters the yard;

Our Ivan gets off him,

In the mansion the month is coming

And he speaks like this:

“Hello, Mesyats Mesyatsovich!

I am Ivanushka Petrovich,

From distant sides

And I brought you a bow.” —

“Sit down, Ivanushka Petrovich,”

Mesyats Mesyatsovich said, -

And tell me the blame

To our bright country

Your coming from the land;

What people are you from?

How did you end up in this region?

Tell me everything, don’t hide it,”

“I came from the land of Zemlyanskaya,

From a Christian country, after all, -

Ivan says, sitting down, -

Okiyan moved

With instructions from the queen -

Bow in the bright chamber

And say like this, wait:

“Tell my dear:

Her daughter wants to know her

Why is she hiding?

Three nights, three days

Some kind of face is from me;

And why is my brother red

Wrapped up in stormy darkness

And in the foggy heights

Won’t you send a ray to me?”

So, it seems? — Craftswoman

The queen speaks eloquently;

You won’t remember everything in full,

What did she tell me? —

“What kind of queen?” —

“This, you know, is the Tsar Maiden.” —

“The Tsar Maiden?.. So she,

Was it taken away by you?” —

Mesyats Mesyatsovich cried out.

And Ivanushka Petrovich

He says: “It is known, by me!

See, I am the royal stirrup;

Well, so the king sent me,

So that I can deliver her

In three weeks to the palace;

Otherwise me, father,

He threatened to impale him.”

The month cried with joy,

Well, hug Ivan,

Kiss and have mercy.

“Ah, Ivanushka Petrovich! —

Mesyats Mesyatsovich spoke. —

You brought such news,

Which I don’t know what to count!

And how we grieved,

What a princess they lost!..

That's why, you see, I

Three nights, three days

I walked in a dark cloud,

I was sad and sad,

I didn’t sleep for three days.

I didn’t take a crumb of bread,

That's why my son is red

Wrapped up in stormy darkness,

The hot ray extinguished,

Didn't shine on God's world:

I was still sad, you see, for my sister,

That red Tsar Maiden.

What, is she healthy?

Aren’t you sad, aren’t you sick?” —

“Everyone would think she’s a beauty,

Yes, she seems to be dry:

Well, like a match, listen, thin,

Tea, about three inches in girth;

This is how she gets married,

This is how he will probably get fat:

The king, listen, will marry her.”

The moon cried out: “Oh, villain!

I decided to get married at seventy

On a young girl!

Yes, I stand firmly in that -

He'll be a groom!

See what the old devil is up to:

He wants to reap where he has not sown!

Come on, the varnish hurt!”

Here Ivan said again:

“I still have a request for you,

That's about whale forgiveness...

There is, you see, the sea; miracle whale

Across it lies:

All its sides are torn,

Palisades driven into the ribs...

He, a poor man, asked me

So that I ask you:

Will the torment end soon?

How can I find forgiveness for him?

And why is he lying here?”

The clear moon says:

“He bears torment for this,

What without God's command

Swallowed among the seas

Three dozen ships.

If he gives them freedom,

God will remove adversity from him,

Instantly all wounds will heal,

He will reward you with a long life."

Then Ivanushka stood up,

I said goodbye to the bright month,

He hugged his neck tightly,

He kissed me on the cheeks three times.

“Well, Ivanushka Petrovich! —

Mesyats Mesyatsovich spoke. —

Thank you

For my son and for myself.

Give a blessing

Our daughter is comforted

And tell my dear:

“Your mother is always with you;

Full of crying and ruin:

Soon your sadness will be resolved, -

And not old, with a beard,

And the handsome young man

He will lead you to the leash."

Well, goodbye! God be with you!

Bowing as best I could,

Ivan sat down on his skate,

He whistled like a noble knight,

And he set off on the return journey.

The next day our Ivan

Came to the okiyan again.

Here's a horse running over a whale,

A hoof hits the bones.

Miracle Yudo fish-whale

So, sighing, he says:

“What, fathers, is my request?

Will I ever receive forgiveness? —

“Wait, whale fish!” —

Here the horse screams to him.

So he comes running to the village,

He calls the men to his place,

The black mane is shaking

And he speaks like this:

"Hey, listen up, laymen,

Orthodox Christians!

If none of you wants

Order to sit down with the waterman,

Get out of here immediately.

A miracle will happen here:

The sea will boil violently,

The fish-whale will turn..."

Here are peasants and laymen,

Orthodox Christians

They shouted: “There will be trouble!”

And they went home.

All the carts were collected;

Without hesitation, they put in them

Everything that was in the belly

And they left the whale.

Morning met noon,

And there’s no longer any left in the village

Not a single soul alive

It was as if Mamai was going to war!

Here the horse runs onto its tail,

Close to feathers

And he screams with all his might:

“Miracle-yudo fish-whale!

That's why your torment

What without God's command

You swallowed among the seas

Three dozen ships.

If you give them freedom,

God will remove adversity from you,

Instantly all wounds will heal,

He will reward you with a long life."

And, having finished speaking like this,

I bit the steel bridle,

I strained - and instantly

Jump to a distant shore.

The miracle whale moved

It's like the hill has turned

The sea began to disturb

And throw from the jaws

Ships after ships

With sails and rowers.

There was such a noise here,

That the king of the sea woke up:

They fired copper cannons,

Forged trumpets were blown;

The white sail has risen

The flag on the mast unfurled;

Pop with respect to all employees

Sang prayers on deck;

And there’s a cheerful row of rowers

The song burst out loudly:

“Like along the sea, along the sea,

Along the wide expanse,

That to the very ends of the earth,

The ships are running out..."

The waves of the sea swirled

The ships disappeared from view.

Opening my mouth wide,

Breaking the waves with a splash:

“What can I do for you, friends?

How to reward for service?

Do we need flowery shells?

Do we need golden fish?

Do you need large pearls?

I’m ready to get everything for you!” —

“No, whale-fish, we are rewarded

Nothing is needed -

Ivan tells him,

Better get us the ring -

The ring, you know, the Tsar Maiden,

Our future queen." —

"OK OK! For a friend

And an earring!

I'll find you before lightning

Ring of the red Tsar Maiden" -

Keith replied to Ivan

And, like a key, it fell to the bottom.

Sturgeon all the people

And he speaks like this:

"You reach the lightning

Ring of the red Tsar Maiden,

Hidden in a drawer at the bottom.

Who will deliver it to me?

I will reward him with the rank:

He will be a thoughtful nobleman.

If my order is smart

Don’t fulfill... I will!”

The sturgeons bowed here

And they left in order.

In a few hours

Two white sturgeons

They slowly swam up to the whale

And they humbly said:

“Great king! don't be angry!

We are all the sea, it seems,

They came out and dug up,

But they didn’t open the sign either.

Only one of us is ruff

I would carry out your order:

He walks across all seas,

So, it’s true, the ring knows;

But, as if out of luck, he

It's gone somewhere."

"Find him in a minute

And send me to my cabin!” —

Keith shouted angrily

And he shook his mustache.

The sturgeons bowed here,

They started to run to the zemstvo court

And they ordered at the same hour

From the whale to write a decree,

So that messengers are sent quickly

And they caught that ruff.

Bream, hearing this order,

The decree was written by the name;

Som (he was called an adviser)

I signed the decree;

The black cancer laid down the decree

And I attached the seal.

Two dolphins were called here

And, having given the decree, they said,

So that, on behalf of the king,

We've covered all the seas

And that ruff reveler,

Screamer and bully,

Wherever found

They brought me to the sovereign.

Here the dolphins bowed

And they set off to look for the ruff.

They are looking for an hour in the seas,

They are looking for an hour in the rivers,

All the lakes came out

All the straits have been crossed,

Couldn't find the ruff

And they came back

Almost crying with sadness...

Suddenly the dolphins heard

Somewhere in a small pond

A scream unheard of in the water.

Dolphins turned into a pond

And they dived to the bottom -

Lo and behold: in the pond, under the reeds,

Ruff fights with crucian carp.

“Attention! Damn you!

Look, what a soda they have raised,

Like important fighters!” —

The messengers shouted to them.

“Well, what do you care? —

Ruff shouts boldly to the dolphins. —

I don't like to joke,

I’ll kill everyone at once!” —

“Oh, you eternal reveler

And a screamer and a bully!

That's it, rubbish, you should go for a walk,

Everyone would fight and scream.

At home - no, I can’t sit still!..

Well, why bother dressing up with you, -

Here is the king's decree for you,

So that you swim to him immediately.”

There are naughty dolphins here

Picked up by the stubble

And we went back.

Ruff, well, burst and shout:

“Be merciful, brothers!

Let's fight a little.

Damn that crucian carp

You bullied me yesterday

In an honest meeting with everyone

Inappropriate and varied abuse..."

The ruff continued to scream for a long time,

Finally he fell silent;

And the naughty dolphins

Everyone was dragged by the bristles,

Without saying anything

And they appeared before the king.

“Why haven’t you shown up for so long?

Where have you been, son of the enemy?

Keith shouted angrily.

The ruff fell to his knees,

And, having confessed to the crime,

He prayed for forgiveness.

“Well, God will forgive you! —

The sovereign whale speaks. —

But for that your forgiveness

You fulfill the command.” —

“Glad to try, miracle whale!” —

The ruff squeaks on its knees.

“You walk across all the seas,

So, it’s true, you know the ring

Tsar Maidens? - “How can you not know!

We can find it at once.” —

“So go quickly

Find him quickly!”

Here, having bowed to the king,

Ruff went, bent over, out.

He quarreled with the royal servants,

Dragged after the roach

And the little bastards are six

He broke his nose on the way.

Having done such a thing,

He boldly rushed into the pool

And in the underwater depths

I dug a box at the bottom -

At least a hundred pounds.

“Oh, this is not easy!”

And come from all the seas

Ruff calls for herring to come to him.

The herrings gathered their courage,

They started to drag the chest,

You can only hear and that’s all -

"Uh-oh!" yes "oh-oh-oh!"

But no matter how loudly they shouted,

They just tore their stomachs,

And the damn chest

I didn't even get an inch.

“Real herrings!

You should have a whip instead of vodka!” —

The ruff shouted from all his heart

And dived on the sturgeon.

Sturgeons are swimming here

And without a cry they rise

Firmly stuck in the sand

A red chest with a ring.

“Well, guys, look,

You are now sailing to the king,

I'm going to the bottom now

Let me rest a little:

Something overcomes sleep,

So he closes his eyes..."

Sturgeons are swimming to the king,

Ruff-reveler straight into the pond

(From which the dolphins

Dragged by the stubbles)

Tea, fight with crucian carp, -

I don't know about that.

But now we will say goodbye to him

And we will return to Ivan.

Quiet ocean sea.

Ivan sits on the sand,

Waiting for a whale from the blue sea

And purrs with grief;

Collapsed on the sand,

The faithful little hunchback is dozing.

It was getting late in the evening;

Now the sun has gone down;

With a quiet flame of grief,

The dawn unfolded.

But the whale was not there.

“So that those thiefs are crushed!

Look, what a sea devil! —

Ivan says to himself. —

Promised until dawn

Take out the ring of the Tsar Maiden,

I haven’t found it yet,

Damned scoffer!

And the sun has already set,

And...” Then the sea boiled:

A miracle whale has appeared

And to Ivan he says:

"For your good deed

I fulfilled my promise."

A chest with this word

Clanked tightly onto the sand,

Only the shore swayed.

“Well, now I'm even.

If I'm forced again,

Call me again;

Your good deed

Don’t forget me... Goodbye!”

Here the miracle whale fell silent

And, splashing, he fell to the bottom.

The little humpbacked horse woke up,

Got up on his paws, shook himself off,

Looked at Ivanushka

And he jumped four times.

“Oh yes Keith Kitovich! Nice!

I paid my debt properly!

Well, thank you, whale fish! —

The little humpbacked horse screams. —

Well, master, get dressed,

Set off on your journey;

Three days have already passed:

Tomorrow is an urgent date.

Tea, the old man is already dying.”

Here Vanyusha answers:

“I would be glad to raise with joy,

But there’s no shortage of strength!

The chest is painfully tight,

Tea, there are five hundred devils in it

The damn whale impaled.

I've already raised it three times;

It’s such a terrible burden!”

Here's the thing, without answering,

He lifted the box with his foot,

Like some pebble

And he waved it around his neck.

“Well, Ivan, sit down quickly!

Remember, tomorrow the deadline will pass,

And the way back is long."

It was the fourth day of dawn.

Our Ivan is already in the capital.

The king runs towards him from the porch.

“What ring is mine?” - shouts.

Here Ivan gets off his skate

And he answers:

“Here’s your chest!

Let's call the regiment:

The chest is small at least in appearance,

And he will crush the devil.”

The king immediately called the archers

And immediately ordered

Take the chest to the room,

He himself went to the Tsar Maiden.

“Your ring, soul, has been found,”

He said sweetly,

And now, say it again,

There is no obstacle

Tomorrow morning, my dear,

I want to marry you.

But would you like, my friend,

Can you see your little ring?

He lies in my palace."

The Tsar Maiden says:

"I know I know! But I must admit

We can’t get married yet.” —

“Why, my dear?

I love you with my soul;

Forgive me for my courage,

I wanted to get married out of fear.

If you... then I will die

Tomorrow, out of grief in the morning.

Have pity, Mother Queen!”

The girl tells him:

“But look, you’re gray;

I'm only fifteen years old:

How can we get married?

All the kings will begin to laugh,

Grandfather, they will say, took it for his grandson!”

The king shouted angrily:

"Let them just laugh -

I just have it curled up:

I will fill all their kingdoms!

I will exterminate their entire family!”

“Let them not even laugh,

We still can’t get married, -

Flowers do not grow in winter:

I'm beautiful, and you?..

What can you boast about? —

The girl tells him.

“Even though I’m old, I’m smart! —

The king answered the queen. —

Once I tidy up a little,

At least I'll appear like that to anyone

A daring fellow.

Well, what do we need?

If only we could get married.”

The girl tells him:

“And such is the need,

That I'll never go out

For the bad, for the gray,

For such a toothless one!”

The king scratched his head

And, frowning, he said:

“What should I do, queen?

Fear how I want to get married;

Unfortunately for you:

I won’t go, I won’t go!” —

“I won’t marry Sedov,”

The Tsar Maiden speaks again. —

Become as before, well done,

I’m going down the aisle right away.” —

“Remember, mother queen,

After all, you cannot be reborn;

God alone creates miracles.”

The Tsar Maiden says:

“If you don’t feel sorry for yourself,

You will become younger again.

Listen: tomorrow at dawn

In the wide yard

You must force the servants

Place three large boilers

And put fires under them.

The first one needs to be poured

Cold water to the brim,

And the second - boiled water,

And the last one - with milk,

Boil it with a key.

So, if you want to get married

And become handsome, -

You are without a dress, light,

Bathe in milk;

Stay here in boiled water,

And then still in the cold,

And I'll tell you, father,

You will be a great fellow!”

The king didn't say a word

Stirrupnov immediately called.

“What, back to the okiyan? —

Ivan speaks to the Tsar. —

No, pipes, your honor!

Even then, everything in me has gone astray.

I won’t go for anything!” —

“No, Ivanushka, that’s not it.

Tomorrow I want to force

Place boilers in the yard

And put fires under them.

I'm thinking of pouring the first one

Cold water to the brim,

And the second - boiled water,

And the last one - with milk,

Boil it with a key.

You have to try

Trying to swim

In these three big cauldrons,

In milk and two waters." —

“See where it’s coming from! —

Ivan begins his speech here.

Only piglets are scalded

Yes turkeys, yes chickens;

Look, I'm not a pig,

Not turkey, not chicken.

That's how it is in the cold

I could take a swim

And how will you cook it?

You won't lure me in like that.

Enough, king, to be cunning, to be wise

Let Ivan go!”

The king, shaking his beard:

"What? I should dress up with you! —

He shouted. - But look!

If you are at dawn

If you don't fulfill the command,

I will give you to torment

I'll order you to be tortured

Tear it apart piece by piece.

Get out of here, you evil sickness!”

Here Ivanushka, sobbing,

I trudged to the hayloft,

Where his hobby lay.

“What, Ivanushka, are you unhappy?

Why did you hang your head? —

The horse tells him. —

Tea, our old groom

Did you throw out the idea again?

Ivan fell on the skate on his neck,

Hugged and kissed.

“Oh, trouble, horse! - said. —

The king finally sells me out;

Think about it, it makes you

I should bathe in cauldrons,

In milk and two waters:

Like in some cold water,

And in another boiled water,

Milk, listen, boiling water.”

The horse tells him:

“What a service!

All my friendship is needed here.

How can one not say:

It would be better for us not to take a pen;

From him, from the villain,

So many troubles on your neck...

Well, don't cry, God be with you!

Let's deal with the trouble somehow.

And sooner I myself will perish,

I'll leave you, Ivan.

Listen: tomorrow at dawn,

At those times, like in the yard

You will undress as you should

You tell the king: “Is it not possible,

Your Grace, order

Send the hunchback to me,

To say goodbye to him for the last time.”

The king will agree to this.

This is how I wave my tail,

I'll dip my face into those cauldrons,

I'll spray on you twice,

I will whistle loudly,

Look, don't yawn:

Dive into the milk first,

Here in a cauldron with boiled water,

And from there it’s cold.

Now pray

Go to sleep peacefully."

The next day, early in the morning,

Ivan's horse woke up:

“Hey, master, it’s time to sleep!

It’s time to perform the service.”

Here Vanyusha scratched himself,

Stretched and stood up

Prayed on the fence

And he went to the king’s courtyard.

There the boilers were already boiling;

They sat next to them

Coachmen and cooks

And the servants of the court;

They diligently added firewood,

They talked about Ivan

Quietly among themselves

And they laughed sometimes.

So the doors opened;

The king and queen appeared

And they got ready from the porch

Look at the daredevil.

“Well, Vanyusha, take off your clothes

And, brother, go swimming in cauldrons!” —

Tsar Ivan shouted.

Here Ivan took off his clothes,

Without answering anything.

And the queen is young,

So as not to see nakedness,

She wrapped herself in a veil.

So Ivan went up to the boilers,

I looked at them and itched.

“What have you become, Vanyusha? —

The king cried out to him again. —

Do what you must, brother!”

Ivan says: “Isn’t it possible,

Your Grace, order

Send the hunchback to me.

I would say goodbye to him for the last time.”

The king, after thinking, agreed

And he deigned to order

Send the hunchback to him.

Here the servant brings the horse

And he moves to the side.

Here the horse waved its tail,

I dipped my face into those cauldrons,

He laughed at Ivan twice,

He whistled loudly.

Ivan looked at the horse

And he immediately dived into the cauldron,

Here in another, there in a third too,

And he became so handsome,

No matter what a fairy tale says,

You can't write with a pen!

Here he is dressed up in a dress,

The Tsar Maiden bowed,

Looked around, cheering up,

With an important look, like a prince.

“Eco miracle! - everyone shouted. —

We haven't even heard of it

To make yourself prettier!”

The king ordered himself to be undressed,

Crossed himself twice

Thump into the cauldron - and there it boils!

The Tsar Maiden stands up here,

Gives a sign for silence,

Bedspread lifts

And he speaks to the servants:

“The king ordered you to live long!

I want to be a queen.

Do you love me? Answer!

If you love me, then admit it

The master of everything

And my husband!

Here the queen fell silent,

She pointed at Ivan.

“Lyuba, lyuba! - everyone is shouting. —

For you, even to hell!

Yours for the sake of talent

Let's recognize Tsar Ivan!

The king takes the queen here,

Leads to God's church,

And with the young bride

He walks around the area.

The guns from the fortress are firing;

Forged trumpets are blown;

All the cellars are opening,

Barrels of Fryazhsky are displayed,

And, having drunk, the people

What is there to eat?

“Hello, our king and queen!

With the beautiful Tsar Maiden!

In the palace there is a feast:

Wine flows like a river there;

At oak tables

Boyars and princes drink.

My heart loves it! I was there,

He drank honey, wine and beer;

Even though it ran down my mustache,

Not a drop got into my mouth.

in Siberia in 1815.

As a child, he listened to the tales of Siberian peasants, remembered many of them for the rest of his life and told them well himself.

Ershov loved it very much folk tales. In them, the people wittily ridiculed their enemies - the tsar, boyars, merchants, priests, condemned evil and stood for truth, justice, and goodness.

Ershov was studying at St. Petersburg University when he first read Pushkin's wonderful fairy tales. They had just appeared then.

And he immediately decided to write his own “The Little Humpbacked Horse” - a cheerful fairy tale about the brave Ivanushka - peasant son, about a stupid king and a magical little humpbacked horse. Ershov took a lot for “The Little Humpbacked Horse” from ancient folk tales.

The tale was published in 1834. A. S. Pushkin read and spoke with great praise about “The Little Humpbacked Horse.”

After graduating from university, Ershov returned from St. Petersburg to Siberia, his homeland, and lived there all his life. For many years he was a teacher at a gymnasium in the city of Tobolsk. Ershov passionately loved his harsh land, studied it and knew it well.

In addition to “The Little Humpbacked Horse,” he wrote several more works, but they are now forgotten. And “The Little Humpbacked Horse,” which appeared more than a hundred years ago, still remains one of the favorite fairy tales of our people.

The Little Humpbacked Horse

The Little Humpbacked Horse

Russian folktale

Once upon a time there lived an old man and an old woman. They had three sons: the big one was Mikolenka, and the second son was Petinka, and the third was Ivanushka the Fool. They were engaged in arable farming; They sowed a dessiatine in a field of arable land, along the main road. The wheat is very good: it grows, spreads, and a spikelet comes out of it. Some unknown animal or animal has gotten into the wheat, crushing the wheat and tearing the ears.

This same old man came to look at the wheat - the wheat was bruised and the ears were torn. He comes home and tells his children: “But, guys, our wheat is very good, but someone crushes it painfully and tears the ears; we must guard her.” Well, his sons told him: “We need to keep watch, father.” And they began to accumulate, whoever gets to guard first will have to go to the field, spend the night there and not sleep all the dark night.

My son Mikolenka got to go for the first night. He takes a pitchfork and an ax and goes out into the field, on patrol. He didn’t run far: he lay under his neighbor’s fence. The white dawn broke, and he got ready to go home. He goes up to the porch and takes the ring: “It’s already light!” Unlock the door for the guard!” They heard the “light already,” the doors were unlocked, and the guard was let in. They ask him: “Did you see anyone in the field, Mikolenka?” But where will Mikolenka see? He had never been in the field or seen wheat, but he lay under his neighbor’s fence! So the old owner locked up the horse and quickly rode off to the field. He looks - in the morning the wheat is crushed in the dew! He comes home and says: “Oh, Mikolenka, you overslept! The wheat is very wrinkled.”

The second night comes. Petinka’s son also takes a pitchfork and an ax and goes out into the field, on patrol. He didn’t run far: he lay on a dryer next to him. In the morning, my father drives into a field - what’s more, the field is rumpled! He came home and said: “Petya, you know, you weren’t there at all? Even more wrinkled! »

Here Vanyushka the Fool is lying on the stove, rolling his snot on a ball and saying: “If I, father, will go and keep watch.” The father says: “Where should you, stupid, keep watch! The smart ones slept, didn’t see anything, and you won’t see anything at all.”

When late evening came, Vanyushka got down from the stove, walked up to the table, didn’t belittle anyone, took a loaf of bread, cut off a circle of loaves and went into an open field. Sits behind a bush, handling a slice. And suddenly there was a light shining on the wheat: a Latin mare was running. Here he is closer and closer to her, crawling and crawling. She crushes the wheat and tears the ears, and Vanyushka crawls closer and grabs her by the mane! He jumped on top of her, sat down with his back to the head and his face to the tail; With his left hand he caught him by the tail, and with his right hand he hit him on the steep hips. This same mare flew across the field, jumped and ran wildly: I wanted to drop Vanyushka from myself and kill him to death. No, Vanyushka sits unharmed. No matter how much she searched, she stopped and submitted to Ivanushka. Ivanushka got down, turned him around and took him home.

The mare walked and followed the fool Ivanushka and began to say to him: “Let me go, Ivanushka: I will give you two horses - as I am myself, and I will give you a small third horse.” Vanyushka says: “You’ll deceive me!” - “No, just let me in - now they will appear in front of you.” He thought yes and let it go. The mare flew and twirled her tail. Suddenly two horses appear - it’s hard to look at them and you can’t evaluate them in any way; the third horse with them stands small: he himself is six inches high, and his ears are three arshins deep.

Vanyushka sat behind a bush and handled a slice; I tied these horses to a bush and went to my father’s house. When he came to the priest’s house, his father asked: “What, Vanyushka, have you seen anyone?” Vanyushka jumped up and down: “Oh, father, I caught three horses!” The brothers look at him and ask: “Where are they, Ivan?” - “They are tied to a bush.” Vanyushka went to have breakfast. While he was having breakfast, the brothers ran into the field and stole a couple of horses; we sat down and went to Kitai-Gorod to sell at the fair. They left him only a small horse. Vanyushka says to his father: “Let’s go, father, to get the horses.”

Vanya and his father went, they came - there are no horses near the bush, only one small horse stands. Vanyushka got so angry, cried and sobbed! “And who stole these horses?” He scolded them painfully. The little humpbacked horse says to Vanyushka: “Don’t scold me, Vanya! Your brothers stole your horses - it will be a sin for you!” The little horse says: “Come on, sit on me! We’ll give chase and catch them on the road!” Vanyushka sat on his skate, flew along the high road - Vanya didn’t have time to count the miles, and caught up with them on the high road, and Vanyushka shouted: “Stop, thieves! Not your horses! Why did you steal them from me?” Those brothers were reasonable, they told him: “We, Vanyushka, did not steal the horses, but we took them and are taking them to Kitai-Gorod to sell. Brother, we’ll sell the horses and give the money to the priest.” Vanyushka stopped swearing, and we sat down together and drove off.

A dark night overtook them on the road. So they need to spend the night; They say to each other: “Brothers, we should look for a light!” They look in all four directions - a light can be seen from the road to the side. Vanyushka says: “Go, Mikolai, get some fire! At least we’ll cook some gruel.” He sat down and drove off. I drove and drove and came back and couldn’t find the fire. The second brother went and didn’t find this one. Vanyushka got on his horse and went to get the fire himself. He drives up to the light, and here it’s not the fire that’s burning, but the firebird’s feather lying there. Vanyushka got off his little horse, took the feather and put it in his bosom. The little humpbacked horse says to Vanya: “Don’t take this feather: this feather will cause great trouble!” The feather seemed painful to Vanyushka - he took it and drove off; I came to that place, but grab it - know the place! The brothers left again, stealthily. He sat down and flew after them in pursuit. I caught up with them in Kitai-Gorod. They see that things are bad, they think to themselves: “This is a city - he, a fool, will tie us up and put us in jail.” They took the horses to the market; man for man, they abandoned Vanyushka, and they themselves ran away. Vanyushka took the little horse to the apartment, and took these ones to the market to sell.

Buyers come up to him and ask him: “Well done, are your horses?” - "My". - “What are you asking for them?” - “Seven boxes of updates.” They think and think: what updates? If there are good ones, then you need a lot. No one could evaluate these horses and no one could buy them. Let's go and report to the Chinese king that here, in the horse square, a fine fellow has brought out a couple of horses, he can't take anything for them, and we can't give anything. The king ordered the coachman to pawn his horse; The coachman pawned, the father-tsar took off his clothes, and rushed to the horse square. Vanyushka stands with the horses, jumps back and pats his whip. The king rides up to him: “Well done, are your horses?” - “Mine, sir.” - “What are you asking for them?” He had a skinny little thing; He didn’t know how to count money, he said one thing, put it, you know, on the ground, in a hole, his thin little one: “Here, Tsar’s Majesty, pour it full of gold for me.” The king ordered the filling; Vanyushka took the money and gave the horses to the king.

Vanyushka put money in the letter and sent it to his father. So the king brings the horses and gives them to the grooms. They don’t even accept grooms: they bite and kick, and don’t let them get close to them.

Well, the fairy tale will soon be told, but it won’t be done soon - a day or two has passed. The horses did not drink water and did not eat food. His grooms reported to the Tsar: “Your Tsar’s Majesty, the horses don’t eat food and won’t let us near them.” The king said to them: “What should we do with this matter? We need to look for the old owner and ask what we should feed them with.”

Let's go, they found the old owner in the tavern: drinking wine - and his heels on the side. They took him, picked him up by the arms, and dragged him into the palace to the king. The king came out to face him and asked: “What will we, Vanyushka, feed your horses? They don’t know us and won’t let us get close.” Vanyushka got up and went to the stable. When he got up, they neighed loudly because they saw Vanyushka. Vanyushka stroked them, gave them something to drink, and gave them food. They eat food like this, but don’t look at anyone at all. Vanyushka walks quietly around them, stroking and cleaning them, and so they soon changed.

So the tsar calls on his old grooms: “Why, brothers, don’t you know how to feed Vanyushka’s horses, don’t you know how to walk after them?” So the Tsar called Vanyushka and told him everything: “You, Vanyushka, will take care of all my horses and look after the old grooms.”

As the dark night comes, all the grooms light tallow candles, and the new ones go to the stables. Vanyushka does not take fire, has no light; he goes into the stable, takes a feather from the firebird’s pocket - the whole stable is on fire. He will water, feed, groom and clean the horses. In the morning he leads out into the wide courtyard, only it becomes glassy, and the old grooms have all their horses lying around in the mud.

Here the father-king of the horses comes out to look; He thanks Vanyushka, and hits the old grooms on the neck: they don’t try. And so the old grooms were painfully angry with Vanya and thought to themselves: “He doesn’t take the fire, he doesn’t have the light. How does he follow the horses at night?” At night, Vanyushka climbed into the stable to spend the night, stuck a feather into the wall - the fire was still burning; and the old grooms are looking through the hole.

In the morning we got up, went to the king, told him everything: our new groom took a walk with us today and told us a lot of things, that he has a firebird’s feather. “Yes,” he says, “I’m not like a pen,” he boasts, “and I can get it myself.” The same hour the king sends an envoy, they bring Vanyushka to his face; the king and says: “Come on, Vanyushka, where is your pen?” - “I don’t have it, Your Royal Majesty.” - "How?! The grooms told me that you go to the stables, don’t take candles and don’t have a fire; What do you use to get your horses?” He raised his saber to the point and wants to cut off his head: “If you don’t give up this feather, then off with your head, but if you give it back, I’ll make you look like a senior groom!” Vanyushka took the feather out of his bosom and gave it to the king in his white hands. The Tsar took the feather, and poured Vanya a glass of vodka and said: “What about you, Vanya, when you drank vodka to these grooms, you told them that not only did you want to get this feather yourself?” Vanyushka swore and swore: “I never went to the tavern with them, and I didn’t drink vodka with them, and I didn’t say anything. I don’t know what kind of bird it is.” Vanyushka was alone, but there were many grooms. They all shouted out loud: “I told you, your royal majesty!” The king shouted at him in fear and said: “Get him in the morning, otherwise I’ll cut his head off alive!”

Vanyushka cried bitterly; goes to the stable, weeps bitterly, and the little hunchbacked horse: “What,” he says, “isn’t he happy, Vanya, did he hang his head violently?” - “Oh, what a disaster for me, my dear! The king orders us to get the firebird itself!” The horse says: “That’s the same thing, Vanya! I told you: don’t take this pen - this pen will cause great trouble. Sit on me and take the bag.” He sat down on his skate; the horse began to sing like a bird, and took Vanya to a dense forest far away. In the dense forest there was a vast clearing, and in the middle of the clearing stood one tree, and near this tree the grass was crushed and trampled. This little horse began to tell Vanya: “Here I am, Vanyushka, I’ll stand here, and you sit here, all the dark night, look and several firebirds will fly to this clearing and all sit on this tree, and the whole clearing will light up. Sit and do not be afraid. So they will sit on the tree and come down to the ground and play; They’ll play and go to bed - you’re here right now, scratching and in the bag! And hold it as tightly as possible, and when you catch it, scream at me.”

Vanyushka listened to the order. The dark night came, bird after bird began to fly, and many of them flew in. So they settled everything on the tree; how everyone flocked and began to play, they played enough and went to bed. Vanyushka quietly crawled up, grabbed one and into the bag. She is so strong and carries him with a sack across the clearing. Vanyushka shouted: “Little Humpbacked Horse! I caught you, but I won’t hold you back!” The little humpbacked horse appears in front of him: “Sit on me!” Vanyushka sat down, and the horse flew away. He flew to the kingdom and put his skate in the stable. And the king does not sleep during the dark nights, looking at everything in all four directions through a telescope.

The next morning Vanyushka goes and carries the firebird in his bag. He accepted a gift from him, and treated him to vodka, and said to the old grooms: “Why do you live with me like pigs, only eating bread?!” And he ordered Vanyushka to be greater than everyone else. He made life terrible for them: he beat them with anything.

The king lost some of his strength - he was getting a bride: far away, in the thirtieth kingdom, there is Elena the Beautiful, and so he wanted to marry her - he only thinks about her day and night. These old grooms got together, went to the Tsar, and reported that your new groom was with us in the tavern and boasted: he wants to get you Elena the Beautiful. Well, the king is now calling on Vanya: “How, Vanyushka, do you want to get me Elena the Beautiful? If you could get it for me, I would give you half the kingdom. The first place is to live next to me, and the second place is opposite me, and the third place is wherever you want. And I will give a countless treasury; and if you don’t get it; then kill me alive!” Vanyushka says: “I can’t know anything.” The king says that it should be done in the morning.

Vanyushka is not cheerful, he hung his head violently. He goes to the stable and cries bitterly. The little humpbacked horse asks him: “Why are you, Vanyushka, not cheerful, hanging your violent head below your mighty shoulders?” He cries so much, he can’t speak in his tears! “The king ordered me to get Elena the Beautiful.” “That’s it, Vanya, I told you: don’t take this feather - this feather will cause great trouble. This is not trouble yet, but trouble is ahead! Go to bed, and the next morning go to the king and tell him to sew different pairs of shoes, and order him to buy nine different bottles three times. intoxicating swill."

Vanyushka went and reported to the king. The king had everything ready in an hour. They bring Vanyushka and give Vanyushka the shoes: “Take the shoes, and put the bottles in your wallet!”

Vanyushka got on his horse and flew off. His little humpbacked horse jumped over all the mountains and valleys, let dark forests between his legs, and his legs were like those of a hedgehog. If he had been on a decent horse, it would have taken three years to travel, but he rode on a decent horse in three hours and arrived at the blue sea. There is no bridge across this sea, but Elena the Beautiful lives beyond the sea. And he, where she was moving on a light boat to the meadow side for a walk, he drove up to these places, arranged a sheet of thin white canvas. The little blanket is as white as white snow. Different shoes bloom like scarlet flowers; I placed various drinks in the tent on shelves - the perfume covered the entire blue sea, and I placed the skate behind the tent.

Suddenly a breeze pulled to the other side of the blue sea, as Elena the Beautiful went out for a walk along the blue sea and saw that the little patch on the other side was turning white, and looked at how flowers seemed to bloom in her meadows. How azure flowers bloom, and from them crimson perfume. She shouted to a close servant in her loud voice, got into a light boat and drove off; They moved to the other side and approached the little shelf. She thought the flowers were blooming, or else the painted shoes were hanging; the bottles smell of all sorts of perfumes. She didn’t recognize Vanyushka, she considered him a merchant, she bought shoes from him; While shopping, I drank a bottle of various vodkas with Vanya and shook my head so much that I said a little word to him: “And you, unknown merchant, good fellow, give me another treat, and let’s go with me to the other side, home.” Here Vanyushka, be nice, took out a stronger bottle, poured a glass fuller, drank it all, and said: “Oh, let me drink out of grief!” And he poured another for Elena the Beautiful. Elena Prekrasnaya was drinking her second glass - she was shaking her hands and didn’t know what to do. And the horse says, standing behind the blanket: “But the woman’s hair is long, but her mind is short!” Look, Vanyushka, you wouldn’t have gotten into your mouth!” Vanyushka soon realized how he grabbed hold of the drunken Elena and ended up in the bag!

Vanyushka put Elena in a sack, sat on a horse and fluttered about like a bright falcon - and there was no trace of him! The good fellow flew; comes to the priest to his king. The Tsar was delighted, threw himself on Elena’s neck, kissed Elena: “We don’t brew beer, don’t smoke wine - now for the wedding!” Elena the Beautiful didn’t let him get close to her; she said one speech to him: “No, king, I shouldn’t marry you: I’ve been stolen. I don't have a wedding dress. Go and bring him to me, then I’ll get married.” And where should he go? He's afraid of the gate. The father-king answers: “Where am I going to go? Where can I find him? - “Whoever got me will bring my dress.”

Now the king calls on Vapyushka the Fool. Vanyushka is resting in the stable, exhausted, and doesn’t know anything. They brought him to the king. “Vanyushka, do me a service, and not a service - friendship: go and bring a dress to my betrothed bride!” - “Father Tsar, I don’t know where to get it.” Elena the Beautiful told Vanyushka everything: “Go,” she says, “to that blue sea where you caught me, there, in the middle of the sea, there is a chest at the bottom; The dress is in the chest. Open it and take it, then I will get married.” The king shouted at him with fear: “Quickly to get it! I’ll take your head off alive!”

Vanyushka cried bitterly; he goes to the stable, tears run in three rows. The little humpbacked horse asks him: “What, Vanya, are you crying bitterly?” - “Big trouble is upon me!” - “What’s the problem?” - “Elena the Beautiful ordered to get a wedding dress.” “That’s it, Vanya,” said the horse, “I told you: don’t take this pen!.. Okay, go to bed: things will be fine.” Vanya lay down, not sleeping - tears flowing from his eyes. The little humpbacked horse soon comes up and says: “He’ll be sleeping, Vanyushka!” It’s time to get up, you and I are going to go and grieve!”

The good fellow sat down and flew away. Where his little blanket stood, there is only a whiff of ashes. We approached the blue sea; said the little humpbacked horse: “Vanyushka, close your eyes!” Sit tight!” The horse dived into the sea, to the very bottom, and they reached the chest; They opened it, took out the dress, and tied it in a bundle. The good fellow sat down and flew off.

Soon the fairy tale is told, but not soon the deed is done. Three years have passed. We arrived at the Tsar, Vanyushka put his horse in the stable, and went to the Tsar himself; They sit with Elena the Beautiful, eat tea, and drink vodka before tea. Vanyushka came, put on a colorful dress, gave it to Elena the Beautiful, and the Tsar stroked Vanyushka on the head and doesn’t know what to do with him. He sends Vanya to the stable to pawn new horses: he wants to ride with Elena in order to get married quickly. Elena the Beautiful says to the king: “Of the two of you, one will be my groom.” She ordered the king to light a fire in the middle of the wide courtyard and hang three cauldrons: pour resin into the first, and milk into the second, and plain water into the third cauldron and boil all three cauldrons, and Elena the Beautiful said: “Whoever bathes in these cauldrons - he will be my fiancé!” Vanyushka cried bitterly: he doesn’t want to swim and doesn’t take his bride, but she answers him: “You went and suffered - maybe I’ll be yours.” And Father the Tsar - his little legs are shaking - and thinks: “How can you swim in the water?”

She forced them to finish, who should go first. Vanyushka the Fool had to dive first. Vanyushka the Fool cried bitterly and said to Elena the Beautiful: “I’ll go and go to the little humpbacked horse, say goodbye, bow at his feet, and let him go home to my side.”

Vanyushka came to the little hunchbacked horse, cried bitterly, and couldn’t see his little horse in his tears. “What, Vanya, are you crying?” - “Big trouble for me! Now my life will end: they force me to bathe in three cauldrons: in boiling tar, in milk and in pitch.” - “Well, if only I were alive, and you will be alive! Go ahead, I'll follow you. Dive in without fear! I’ll dip my left foot in resin and let it go cold, I’ll dip my right foot in milk and I’ll let it go into ice, and I’ll snort my nostrils into the tar and it’ll be full of snow.”

Vanyushka went up to the cauldrons - Elena the Beautiful was standing with the king, on the edge. The king waits for Vanyushka to dive. Vanyushka crossed over and fell into tar! All black emerged from the surface like a firebrand! As soon as he dived into the milk, he became whiter, and after washing himself with water, he became a good fellow: he couldn’t think of it, couldn’t guess, couldn’t write with a pen!

Here Elena the Beautiful sends the king: “Dive after him!” He thinks to himself: “Vanyushka dived, and I need to.” It’s like he dived into the tar and now he’s sitting there.

She and Vanyushka got married, began to live and be, to live worse, to have children.

And the fairy tale ends here.

The Little Humpbacked Horse summary

Once upon a time there lived a peasant who had 3 sons, Danilo - smart, Gavrilo - “this way and that”, the youngest - Ivan the Fool. The brothers noticed that crops were disappearing in the field where they grew millet. They decided to take turns on duty at night. During his shift, Ivan saw a white mare with a golden mane in a field, jumped on her and galloped off. The mare promises Ivan to give birth to three horses, two handsome and one with a hump on the back, in exchange for her freedom. Ivan agrees, but the mare warns him that he can sell two horses, but should keep the third for himself, he will help out in difficult times. Three days later the mare kept her promise.

One day the older brothers saw two horses, took them away and sold them. The little humpbacked horse told the owner about what had happened, Ivan was saddened, jumped on his horse and caught up with the brothers, but Ivan had mercy on them and, deciding to sell the horses, went with them to the city.
At night they saw a light and sent Ivan to investigate. Ivan sees a wonderful light flowing all around, but does not warm, does not smoke. The horse says that this is the Firebird's feather, which brings misfortune. But Ivan does not listen to the horse, and hides the feather under his cap.

At the fair, the mayor immediately noticed the horses and persuaded the king to buy the handsome horses. However, on the way to the palace, the horses turn around and run away back to Ivan. Seeing this, the Tsar gets Ivan a job in the palace as a manager of the stables.
The angry sleeper wants to get rid of Ivan at all costs, but sees that the horses are well-groomed and fed. At night, he secretly sneaks into the stable and sees: Ivan takes out the feather of the Firebird, and, illuminating the room with it, removes and cleans the horses and goes to bed. Sleeper steals the feather and reports everything to the king. In the morning, the Tsar calls Ivan to him and demands that he catch the Firebird. Ivan, not knowing what to do, returns to the skate and cries, but the little hunchback promises to help him.

Ivan takes millet and overseas wine and rides on a hunchback after the miracle bird. They travel for a long time, and finally come to a forest, in the middle of which is a mountain of silver. Firebirds fly to the stream near the mountain. Ivan poured grain into one trough and poured wine, and hid in the second. As soon as the Firebird flew up, Ivan immediately grabbed it. Joyful, Ivan returns to the palace and delivers his order to the Tsar, for which the Tsar promotes Ivan to the Tsar’s stirrup.

The sleeping bag is jealous of Ivan and finds new way drive him out of the palace: he tells the king that he saw the Tsar Maiden on a golden boat on the ocean shore. The Tsar immediately sends Ivan to search for the daughter of the Month. And again the horse undertakes to help its owner.
Upon arrival, Ivan sets up a tent, covers the tablecloth with sweets, waits for the princess to approach the covered clearing, grabs it and brings it to the king. The king immediately falls in love with the beauty and invites her to marry him. However, the Tsar Maiden says that first he must get her ring from the bottom of the ocean. And again Ivan and the Little Humpbacked Horse set off on a journey to fulfill the king’s command.

They see a whale fish lying in the ocean, a forest rustling on its tail, and a village standing on its back. Ivan remembers that the girl asked him to bow to the Month on her behalf and heads to the beauty’s mansion. Also, the Month, having learned from Ivan about the suffering of the whale, tells him a terrible secret: many years ago he swallowed as many as three dozen ships, if he releases them, he will receive forgiveness and will be able to return to sea.

The grateful whale helps get the ring, and Ivan brings it to the king.

The girl says that the king is too old for her, but she knows how to rejuvenate him: the king must bathe in three cauldrons - with hot milk, with boiled water and with cold water. The Tsar is afraid and sends Ivan to be the first to pass this test.
Ivan, realizing that he is in danger of death, closes his eyes and jumps into the cauldron and suddenly realizes that here, too, the Little Humpbacked Horse helped him out - he blew into the cauldron with milk, dipped his muzzle in boiling water, waved his tail over the icy water - and Ivan came out safe and sound. unscathed. The king, looking at Ivan, jumped into the cauldron and was scalded in the first one. The people choose brave Ivan as king, and the maiden as queen, and arrange a wedding feast for them.

Pyotr Pavlovich Ershov

The Little Humpbacked Horse

Pyotr Pavlovich Ershov (1815-1869) was born in Siberia.

As a child, he listened to the tales of Siberian peasants, remembered many of them for the rest of his life and told them well himself.

Ershov was very fond of folk tales. In them, the people wittily ridiculed their enemies - the tsar, boyars, merchants, priests, condemned evil and stood for truth, justice, and goodness.

Ershov was studying at St. Petersburg University when he first read Pushkin's wonderful fairy tales. They had just appeared then.

And he immediately decided to write his own “The Humpbacked Horse” - a funny fairy tale about the brave Ivanushka, a peasant son, about the stupid king and about the magical little humpbacked horse.

For many years he was a teacher at the city gymnasium

Tobolsk.

V. Gakina

The fairy tale begins to tell

Behind the mountains, behind the forests,

Across the wide seas

Against the sky - on the ground

An old man lived in a village.

The old lady has three sons:

The eldest was a smart kid,

Middle son and this way and that,

The younger one was completely stupid.

The brothers sowed wheat

Yes, they took us to the capital city:

You know, that was the capital

Not far from the village.

They sold wheat there

Money was accepted by invoice

And with a full bag

We were returning home.

In a long time al soon

Misfortune befell them:

Someone started walking in the field

And stir the wheat.

Men are so sad

Haven't seen them since birth;

They began to think and guess -

Finally they realized

To stand on guard,

Save the bread at night,

To waylay the evil thief.

Just as it was getting dark,

The elder brother began to get ready,

Took out a pitchfork and an ax

And he went on patrol.

A stormy night has arrived;

Fear came over him

And out of fear our man

Buried under the hay.

The night passes, the day comes;

The sentinel leaves the hay

And, pouring water on myself,

He started knocking on the door:

“Hey you sleepy grouse!

Unlock the door for your brother

I got wet in the rain

From head to toe."

The brothers opened the doors

The guard was let in

They began to ask him:

Didn't he see anything?

The guard prayed

Bowed to the right, to the left

And, clearing his throat, he said:

“I didn’t sleep the whole night;

Unfortunately for me,

There was terrible bad weather:

The rain poured down like this,

I wet my shirt all over.

It was so boring!..

However, everything is fine.”

His father praised him:

“You, Danilo, are great!

You are, so to speak, approximately,

Served me well,

That is, being with everything,

I didn’t lose face.”

It began to get dark again,

The middle brother went to get ready;

I took a pitchfork and an ax

And he went on patrol.

The cold night has come,

Trembling attacked the little one,

The teeth began to dance;

He started to run -

And I walked around all night

Under the neighbor's fence.

It was terrible for the young man!

But it's morning. He goes to the porch:

“Hey you, sleepyheads! Why are you sleeping?

Unlock the door for your brother;

There was a terrible frost at night -

I'm frozen to my stomach."

The brothers opened the doors

The guard was let in

They began to ask him:

Didn't he see anything?

The guard prayed

Bowed to the right, to the left

And through clenched teeth he answered:

“I didn’t sleep all night,

Yes to my unfortunate fate

The cold was terrible at night,

It reached my heart;

I rode all night;

It was too awkward...

However, everything is fine.”

And his father said to him:

“You, Gavrilo, are great!”

It began to get dark for the third time,

The younger one needs to get ready;

He doesn't even move his moustache,

Sings on the stove in the corner

With all your stupid urine:

“You are beautiful eyes!”

They began to drive into the field,

But no matter how long they shouted,

He's not moving. Finally

His father approached him

He tells him: “Listen,

Run away to patrol, Vanyusha;

I’ll give you peas and beans.”

Here Ivan gets off the stove,

Drives the mare

The door is closed by matting,

And as soon as it was dawn,

Goes to the village

Singing a song loudly

“The good fellow went to Presnya.”

Here he comes up to the porch,

Here he grabs the ring,

With all the strength there is knocking on the door,

The roof is almost falling in,

And shouts to the whole market,

It was like there was a fire.

The brothers jumped from the benches,

Stuttering, they cried out:

“Who knocks so hard like that?” -

“It’s me, Ivan the Fool!”

The brothers opened the doors

They let a fool into the hut

And let's scold him, -

How dare he scare them like that!

And Ivan is ours, without taking off

Neither bast shoes, nor malakhai,

Goes to the oven

And he talks from there

About the night adventure,

To everyone's ears:

“I didn’t sleep all night,

I counted the stars in the sky;

My cunning man fought and fought

And finally he begged:

“Don’t destroy me from the world!

A whole year for you for this

I promise to live peacefully

Don’t bother the Orthodox.”

Listen, I didn’t measure the words,

Yes, I believed the little devil.”

Here the narrator fell silent,

He yawned and dozed off.

Brothers, no matter how angry they were,

They couldn’t - they laughed

Grabbing your sides,

Over the fool's story.

The old man himself could not restrain himself,

So as not to laugh until you cry,

At least laugh - that's how it is

It's a sin for old people.

Is there too much time or not enough?

Since this night it has flown, -

I don't care about that

I haven't heard from anyone.

Well, what does it matter to us,

Whether a year or two has flown by, -

After all, you can’t run after them...

Let's continue the fairy tale.

Well, sir, so that's it! Raz Danilo

(On a holiday, I remember it was),

Stretched and drunk,

Dragged into a booth.

What does he see? – Beautiful

Two golden-maned horses

Yes, a toy skate

Only three inches tall,

On the back with two humps

Yes, with arshin ears.

"Hm! now I know

Why did the fool sleep here!” -

Danilo says to himself...

The miracle knocked down the hops at once;

Here Danilo is running into the house

And Gavrile says:

“Look how beautiful

Two golden-maned horses

Our fool got himself:

You haven’t even heard of it.”

And Danilo and Gavrilo,

What urine was in their feet,

Straight through the nettles

That's how they blow barefoot.

Stumbling three times

Having repaired both eyes,

Rubbing here and there

The brothers enter the two horses.

The horses neighed and snored,

The eyes burned like a yacht;

Curled into chalk rings,

The tail flowed golden,

And diamond hooves

Upholstered with large pearls.

Lovely to watch!

If only the king could sit on them.

The brothers looked at them like that,

Which almost got twisted.

“Where did he get them? -

The eldest said to the middle one, -

But the conversation has been going on for a long time,

That treasure is given only to fools,

At least break your forehead,

You won't get two rubles that way.

Let's take them to the capital;

We'll sell it to the boyars there,

We'll split the money evenly.

And with the money, you know,

And you will drink and take a walk,

Just slap the bag.

And to the good fool

Guess won't be enough,

Where do his horses visit?

Let him look for them here and there.

Well, buddy, deal!”

The brothers agreed at once

We hugged and crossed ourselves

And returned home

Talking to each other

About horses and about the feast,

And about a wonderful little animal.

Time rolls on,

Hour after hour, day after day, -

And for the first week

The brothers are going to the capital city,

To sell your goods there

And at the pier you will find out

Didn't they come with ships?

The Germans are in the city for canvases

And is Tsar Saltan still missing?

To fool Christians?

So we prayed to the icons,

Father was blessed

They took two horses secretly

And they set off quietly.

Evening was creeping towards night;

Ivan got ready for the night;

Walking down the street

He eats the edge and sings.

Here he reaches the field,

Hands on hips

And with a spring, like a gentleman,

He enters the booth sideways.

Everything was still standing

But the horses were gone;

Just a hunchbacked toy

His legs were spinning,

Flapping his ears with joy

Yes, he danced with his feet.

How Ivan will howl here,

Leaning on the booth:

“Oh, you horses of Bor-Siva,

Good golden-maned horses!

Didn’t I caress you, friends?

Who the hell stole you?

Damn him, the dog!

May he in the next world

Fail on the bridge!

Oh, you horses of Bura-Siva,

Good horses with golden manes!”

Then the horse neighed at him.

“Don’t worry, Ivan,” he said, “

It’s a great misfortune, I don’t argue;

But I can help, I'm burning

The brothers brought the horses together.

Well, what's the use of idle chatter?

Be at peace, Ivanushka.

Hurry up and sit on me

Just know yourself to hold on;

At least I'm small in stature,

Let me change the horse to another:

As soon as I set off and run,

Here the horse lies down in front of him;

Ivan sits on his skate,

What is mochki roars.

The little humpbacked horse shook himself,

He stood up on his paws, perked up,

He clapped his mane and started snoring.

And he flew like an arrow;

Only in dusty clouds

The whirlwind curled under my feet,

And in two moments, if not in an instant,

Our Ivan caught up with the thieves.

The brothers, that is, were afraid,

They itched and hesitated.

And Ivan began shouting to them:

“It’s a shame, brothers, to steal!

Even though you are smarter than Ivan,

Yes, Ivan is more honest than you:

He didn’t steal your horses.”

The elder, writhing, said:

“Our dear brother Ivasha!

No matter how much wheat we sow,

We have a little daily bread.

And if the harvest fails,

So at least get into the noose!

In such great sadness

Gavrila and I were talking

All last night -

How can I help the grief?

This way and that we decided

Finally they did it like this,

To sell your skates

Even for a thousand rubles.

And as a thank you, by the way,

Bring you a new one -

Red hat with a vertebra

Yes, boots with heels.

Can't work anymore

But you have to wash your eyes, -

You yourself are a smart person!” -

“Well, if that’s the case, then go ahead,”

Ivan says, sell it

Two golden-maned horses,

Yes, take me too.”

The brothers glanced painfully at each other,

No way! agreed.

It began to get dark in the sky;

The air began to grow cold;

So that they don't get lost,

It was decided to stop.

Under the canopies of branches

They tied up all the horses,

Don't buy anything

Don't sell anything.

Now mass is coming;

The mayor leaves

In shoes, in a fur hat,

With a hundred city guards.

A herald rides next to him,

Long mustache, bearded;

Here he rode into a row of horses.

Everyone here fell to their knees

And “hurray!” they shouted to the king.

The king bowed and instantly

Well done jumping off the wagon...

He doesn’t take his eyes off his horses,

From the right, from the left he comes to them,

With a kind word he calls,

It hits them quietly on the back,

Ruffles their steep neck,

Strokes the golden mane,

And, having seen enough,

He asked, turning around

To those around: “Hey, guys!

Whose foals are these?

Who's the boss? Ivan is here,

Hands on hips like a gentleman

Because of the brothers he acts

And, pouting, he answers:

“This couple, king, is mine,

And the owner is me too.” -

“Well, I’m buying a couple;

Are you selling? - “No, I’m changing it.” -

“What good do you take in exchange?” -

"Two to five caps of silver" -

“That means it will be ten.”

The king immediately ordered to weigh

And, by my grace,

He gave me an extra five rubles.

The king was generous!

Led the horses to the stables

Ten gray grooms,

All in gold stripes,

All with colored sashes

And with morocco whips.

But dear, as if for a laugh,

The horses knocked them all off their feet,

All the bridles were torn

And they ran to Ivan.

The king went back

He tells him: “Well, brother,

Ours are not given a pair;

There's nothing to do, you have to

To serve you in the palace;

You will walk in gold

The royal word is a guarantee.

What, do you agree?” - “What a thing!

I will live in the palace

I will walk in gold

Dress up in a red dress,

It's like rolling cheese in butter,

The entire stables

The king gives me an order;

That is, I'm from the garden

I will become a royal commander.

Wonderful thing! So be it

I will, king, serve you.

Just don't fight me, please.

And let me sleep

Otherwise I was like that!”

Meanwhile, two brothers

The royal money was received

They were sewn into girdles,

And we went home.

They shared the house together

They both got married at the same time

They began to live and live,

Yes, remember Ivan.

But now we will leave them,

Let's have fun with a fairy tale again

Orthodox Christians,

What has our Ivan done?

While in the royal service

At the state stable;

In a word: our speech is about

How he became king.

PART 2

Soon the fairy tale will tell

it won't be done soon

The story begins

From the Ivanovs' pranks,

And from sivka, and from burka,

And from the prophetic kaurka.

The goats are gone to the sea;

The mountains are overgrown with forest;

The horse broke from the golden bridle,

Rising straight towards the sun;

Forest standing under your feet,

To the side is a thunder cloud;

A cloud walks and sparkles,

Thunder scatters across the sky.

This is a saying: wait,

The fairy tale will be ahead.

Like on the sea-ocean

And on Buyan Island

There is a new coffin in the forest,

The girl lies in the coffin;

The nightingale whistles over the coffin;

A black beast is prowling in the oak forest.

This is a saying, but here it is -

The fairy tale will take its course.

Well, you see, laymen,

Orthodox Christians

Our daring fellow

He wormed his way into the palace;

Serves at the royal stables

And it won’t bother you at all

It's about brothers, about father

In the sovereign's palace.

And what does he care about his brothers?

Ivan has red dresses,

Red hats, boots

Almost ten boxes;

He eats sweetly, he sleeps so much,

What freedom, and that’s all!

Here in about five weeks

But for all that, two horses

As if only from under the ridge:

Washed clean,

The manes are twisted into braids,

The bangs are gathered in a bun,

The wool – well, it’s shiny, like silk;

There is fresh wheat in the stalls,

As if he would be born right there,

As if it had just been poured.

If only the fool would leave.

I will report to the royal Duma,

What is the state's stablemaster -

He begins to brush the horses,

Washing, cleaning,

Weaves long manes,

Sings different songs.

Meanwhile, curled up in a club,

Tapping the tooth

He looks at the sleeping bag, a little alive,

What is the brownie doing here?

What a demon! Something on purpose

The midnight rogue dressed up:

No horns, no beard,

Boots like al morocco, -

Well, exactly Ivan.

What a miracle? Looks again

The sleeping bag began to move,

And, hearing that Ivan

He snores like Eruslan,

He quietly climbs down

And creeps up to Ivan,

I put my fingers in my hat,

Grab the pen and the trace is gone.

The king had just awakened

Our sleeping bag came to him,

Hit his forehead hard on the floor

And then he sang to the king:

“I am resigned,

The king has appeared before you,

They didn't order me to be executed

Order me to speak." -

“Speak without adding,”

The king told him, yawning, -

If you lie,

You can’t escape the whip.”

Our sleeping bag, having gathered its strength,

He says to the king: “Have mercy!

These are the true Christ,

My denunciation, king, is fair:

Our Ivan, everyone knows

From you, father, he hides

But not gold, not silver -

Firebird feather..." -

“Zharoptitsevo?.. Damned!

And he is brave, so rich...

Wait, you villain!

You won’t escape the lashes!..” -

“And what else does he know! -

The sleeping bag quietly continues,

Bent over. - Welcome!

Let him have a pen;

And the Firebird itself

In your bright room, father,

If you would like to give an order,

He boasts of getting it.”

And the informer with this word,

He approached the bed,

He handed over the treasure - and again on the floor.

And the nobles' messengers

We ran along Ivan,

But, having all collided in the corner,

Stretched out on the floor.

The king admired it a lot

And he laughed until he burst into tears.

And the nobles, seeing

What is funny for a king,

They winked at each other

Give the order now, at least to the sticks, -

“Answer! I’ll lock it up!..” -

“I really tell you:

No pen! Yes, hear where from

Should I get such a miracle?

The king jumped out of bed

And he opened the casket with the feather.

"What? Do you dare to move again?

No, you can't get away with it!

What's this? A?" Ivan is here,

Trembling like a leaf in a storm,

He dropped his hat in fright.

“What, buddy, is it tight? -

The king spoke. “Wait a minute, brother!”

“Oh, for mercy’s sake, I’m guilty!

I won’t lie in advance.”

And, wrapped up in the floor,

Stretched out on the floor.

"Well, for the first time

I forgive you for your guilt, -

The Tsar speaks to Ivan. -

I, God have mercy, am angry!

And sometimes from hearts

I'll take off my forelock and my head.

So, you see, this is what I am like!

But, to say without further words,

I found out that you are the Firebird

To our royal room,

If you wanted to order,

You boast to get it.

Well, look, don't deny it

And try to get it.”

Here Ivan jumped up like a top.

“I didn’t say that! -

He screamed, wiping himself. -

Oh, I don’t lock myself away,

But about the bird, as you wish,

You are lying in vain."

The king, shaking his beard:

But when I saw the tears,

I almost burst into tears myself.

“What, Ivanushka, are you unhappy?

Why did you hang your head? -

The horse told him,

At his spinning legs, -

Don't hide from me

Tell me everything that is in your soul;

I'm ready to help you.

Al, my dear, are you unwell?

Has Al fallen into the hands of a villain?

Ivan fell on the skate on his neck,

Hugged and kissed.

“Oh, trouble, horse! - said. -

The king orders to get the Firebird

To the state room.

What should I do, little hunchback?”

The horse tells him:

“It’s a great misfortune, I don’t argue;

But I can help, I'm burning.

That's why you're in trouble,

What didn't listen to me:

Do you remember, going to the capital city,

You found the Firebird's feather;

I told you then:

“Don’t take it, Ivan, it’s a disaster!

Much, much restlessness

It will bring it with it.”

Now you know

Did I tell you the truth?

But, to tell you out of friendship,

This is a service, not a service;

The service is all ahead, brother.

Now go to the king

And tell him openly:

“I need, king, I need two troughs

Beloyarova millet

Yes, overseas wine.

Yes, tell me to hurry up:

Tomorrow, it’s just going to be a mess,

We'll go hiking."

Here Ivan goes to the king,

He tells him openly:

“I need a king, I need two troughs

Beloyarova millet

Yes, overseas wine.

Yes, tell me to hurry up:

Tomorrow, it’s just going to be a mess,

We'll go hiking."

The king immediately gives the order,

So that the messengers of the nobles

Everything was found for Ivan,

Called him a good guy

And “bon voyage!” said.

Early the next morning,

Ivan's horse woke up:

“Hey! Master! Full sleep!

It’s time to fix things!”

Here Ivanushka got up,

I was going on a journey,

I took the trough and the millet,

And overseas wine;

Dressed up warmer

He sat down on his skate,

He took out a slice of bread

And went east -

Get that Firebird.

They've been traveling for a whole week.

Finally, on the eighth day,

They come to a dense forest,

Then the horse said to Ivan:

“You will see a clearing here;

In that clearing there is a mountain,

All made of pure silver;

Right here before the lightning

The firebirds are arriving

Drink water from a stream;

This is where we’ll catch them.”

And, having finished his speech to Ivan,

Runs out into the clearing.

What a field! The greenery is here

Like an emerald stone;

The wind blows over her,

So it sows sparks;

And the flowers are green

Inexpressible beauty.

Is it in that clearing,

Like a shaft on the okiyan,

The mountain rises

All made of pure silver.

Sun in summer rays

Paints it all with dawns,

Runs like gold in the folds,

There is a candle burning on the top.

Here's a skate along the slope

Climbed this mountain

Miles, ran to a friend

He stood his ground and said:

“Soon the night, Ivan, will begin,

And you will have to guard.

Well, pour wine into the trough

And mix millet with wine.

And to be closed to you,

You crawl under that trough,

Take note quietly

Look, don't yawn.

Before sunrise, hear the lightning

Firebirds will fly here

And they will begin to peck the millet

Yes, in your own way, scream.

You, who is closer,

And grab her, look!

And if you catch a bird-fire -

And shout to the whole market;

I will come to you immediately." -

“Well, what if I get burned? -

Ivan says to the horse,

Sometimes it's midnight

The light spilled over the mountain,

As if noon is coming:

The firebirds swoop in;

They started running and screaming

And peck the millet with wine.

Our Ivan, closed from them,

Looks at the birds from under the trough

And he talks to himself,

Moving your hand like this:

“Ugh, devilish power!

Oh, the crap, they're gone!

Tea, there are about five dozen of them here.

That would be a good time!

Needless to say, fear is beautiful!

Everyone has red legs;

And the tails are a real laugh!

Tea, chickens don’t have those;

And how much, boy, is the light -

Like a father’s oven!”

And, having finished such a speech

With myself, under the loophole

Our Ivan like a snake and a snake

Crawled towards the millet with wine -

Grab one of the birds by the tail.

"Oh! Little hunchbacked little end!

Come running quickly, my friend!

I caught a bird!” -

So Ivan the Fool shouted.

The little hunchback immediately appeared.

“Oh, master, you’ve distinguished yourself! -

The horse tells him. -

Well, quickly put it in the bag!

Yes, tie it tighter;

And hang the bag around your neck,

We need to go back." -

“No, let me scare the birds! -

Ivan says. - Check this out,

Look, you're tired of screaming!"

And, grabbing your bag,

It whips along and across.

Sparkling with a bright flame,

The whole flock started up,

Twisted around in a fiery circle

And it rushed beyond the clouds.

And our Ivan follows them

With your mittens

So he waves and shouts,

As if doused with lye.

The birds were lost in the clouds;

Our travelers have gathered

The royal treasure was laid out

And they came back.

We've arrived in the capital.

“What, did you get the Firebird?” -

The Tsar says to Ivan,

He looks at the sleeping bag himself.

And that one, just out of boredom,

I bit all my hands.

“Of course, I got it,” -

Our Ivan told the king.

“Where is she?” - “Wait a little,

Order the window first

Three weeks later

In the evening we sat alone

Chefs in the royal kitchen

And the servants of the court,

Drinking honey from a jug

“Eh! - one servant said, -

How did I get this today?

A miracle book from a neighbor!

It doesn't have too many pages,

And there are only five fairy tales,

And let me tell you fairy tales,

So you can’t be surprised;

You have to manage this way!”

Tell me, brother, tell me!” -

“Well, which one do you want?

There are five fairy tales; look here:

The first tale about the beaver,

And the second is about the king,

The third... God forbid... exactly!

About the eastern noblewoman;

Here in the fourth: Prince Bobyl;

In the fifth... in the fifth... oh, I forgot!

The fifth tale says...

That’s what’s going on in my mind..." -

“Well, leave her!” - “Wait!..” -

“About a beauty, what, what?” -

“Exactly! The fifth says

About the beautiful Tsar Maiden.

Well, which one, friends?

Shall I tell you today?” -

“Tsar Maiden! - everyone shouted. -

We've already heard about kings,

We need some beauties soon!

It’s more fun to listen to them.”

And the servant, sitting down importantly,

He began to talk drawlingly:

There are guys, it's okay

Is it according to the okyan

Only infidels travel;

From the Orthodox land

Never been

Neither nobles nor laymen

On a filthy okiyan.

The rumor comes from the guests,

That the girl lives there;

But the girl is not simple,

Daughter, you see, dear to the month,

And Sunny is her brother.

That girl they say

Rides in a red sheepskin coat,

In a golden boat, guys.

And with a silver oar

He personally rules in it;

Sings different songs

And he plays the harp..."

The sleeping bag is here as quickly as possible -

And from both feet

He went to the king's palace

And just came to him,

Hit his forehead hard on the floor

And then he sang to the king:

“I am resigned,

The king has appeared before you,

They didn't order me to be executed

Order me to speak!” -

“Tell only the truth

And don’t lie, look, not at all!” -

The king screamed from his bed.

The cunning sleeping bag replied:

“Today we were in the kitchen

They drank to your health,

And one of the court servants

He amused us with a fairy tale out loud;

This fairy tale says

About the beautiful Tsar Maiden.

Here is your royal stirrup

I swore by my brotherhood,

That he knows this bird -

So he called the Tsar Maiden, -

And you want to know her,

He boasts of getting it.”

The sleeping bag hit the floor again.

“Hey, call me Stremnov!” -

The king shouted to the messenger.

The sleeping bag stood behind the stove;

And the messengers of the nobles

They ran along Ivan;

They found him in a sound sleep

And they brought me in a shirt.

The king began his speech like this: “Listen,

There's a denunciation against you, Vanyusha.

They say that now

You boasted to us

Find another bird

Gold embroidered tent

Yes, dining set -

All the overseas jam -

And some sweets to cool off.”

Here Ivan goes to the Tsar

And he says this:

"For the princess's capture

I need, king, two flies,

Gold embroidered tent

Yes, dining set -

All the overseas jam -

And some sweets to cool off."

“It would have been like this a long time ago, rather than not,”

The king from the bed gave the answer

And he ordered that the nobles

Everything was found for Ivan,

Called him a good guy

And “bon voyage!” said.

The next day, early in the morning,

Ivan's horse woke up:

“Hey! Master! Full sleep!

It’s time to fix things!”

Here Ivanushka got up,

I was getting ready to hit the road,

I took my flies and a tent

Yes, dining set -

All the overseas jam -

And sweets to cool off;

I put everything in a travel bag

And tied it with a rope,

Dressed up warmer

He sat down on his skate,

He took out a slice of bread

And went east

Is it the Tsar Maiden?

They travel for a whole week;

Finally, on the eighth day,

They arrive in a dense forest.

Then the horse said to Ivan:

“This is the road to the okiyan,

And on it all year round

That beauty lives;

Twice? she's just getting off

From the okiyana and leads

A long day to land with us.

You’ll see for yourself tomorrow.”

And, having finished his speech to Ivan,

Runs out to the okiyan,

On which the white shaft

I was walking alone.

Here Ivan gets off his skate,

And the horse tells him:

“Well, pitch the tent,

Place the device on the fly

From overseas jam

And some sweets to cool off.

Lie down behind the tent yourself

Yes, be brave with your mind.

You see a boat flashing by.

Then the princess swims up.

Let her enter the tent,

Let him eat and drink;

Here's how he plays the harp -

Know that the time is coming.

You immediately run into the tent,

Grab that princess

And hold her tighter

Yes, call me quickly.

I'm on your first order

I'll just run to you

And let's go... Look,

Take a closer look at her

If you sleep through it,

You can’t avoid trouble this way.”

Here the horse disappeared from my eyes,

Ivan hid behind the tent

And let's turn the hole,

To spy on the princess.

Clear afternoon arrives;

The Tsar Maiden swims up,

Enters the tent with a harp

And he sits down at the device.

"Hm! So this is the Tsar Maiden!

As they say in fairy tales, -

Reasons with a stirrup, -

What's so red

The Tsar Maiden, so wonderful!

This one is not pretty at all:

And pale and thin,

Tea, about three inches in girth;

And the scissor is a scissor!

Ugh! Like a chicken!

Let someone love you

I won’t take it for nothing.”

Here the princess began to play

And she chanted so sweetly,

That Ivan, not knowing how,

He falls asleep peacefully.

The West was quietly burning down.

Suddenly the horse neighed above him

“Sleep, my dear, to the star!

Get your troubles out!

It’s not me who will be impaled!”

Then Ivanushka began to cry

And, sobbing, he asked,

So that the horse forgives him.

“Let Ivan off the hook,

I won’t sleep ahead.” -

“Well, God will forgive you! -

The little hunchback shouts to him. -

We'll fix everything, maybe

Just don't fall asleep;

Tomorrow, early in the morning,

To the gold-embroidered tent

The girl will sail again -

Drink some sweet honey.

If you fall asleep again,

You won’t blow your head off.”

Here the horse disappeared again;

And Ivan started collecting

Sharp stones and nails

From broken ships

In order to get pricked,

If he takes a nap again.

The next day, in the morning,

To the sewing tent

The Tsar Maiden swims up,

The boat is thrown ashore,

Enters the tent with a harp

And sits down at the device...

Here the princess began to play

And she chanted so sweetly,

What's wrong with Ivanushka again?

I wanted to sleep.

“No, wait, you trashy one! -

Ivan says, standing up. -

Suddenly you won’t leave in a row

And you won’t fool me.”

Here Ivan runs into the tent,

The braid is long enough...

“Oh, run, little horse, run!

My little hunchback, help!”

Instantly the horse appeared to him.

“Ah, master, he distinguished himself!

Well, sit down quickly!

Yes, hold it tight!”

It reaches the capital.

The king runs out to the princess.

He takes you by the white hands,

Leads her to the palace

And sits down at the oak table

And at the end of the silk curtain,

He looks into your eyes with tenderness,

Sweet speech says:

“Incomparable girl!

Agree to be a queen!

He seethed with intense passion.

Your falcon eyes

They won't let me sleep in the middle of the night

And in broad daylight,

Oh, they're tormenting me.

Say a kind word!

Everything is ready for the wedding;

Tomorrow morning, my dear,

Let's get married to you

And let’s start living happily ever after.”

And the princess is young,

Without saying anything

She turned away from the king.

The king was not at all angry,

But I fell in love even more deeply;

I knelt before her,

Hands gently shook

And for some sins

Am I suffering troubles and torments? -

“Okay, okay, Whale Fish!” -

Our Ivan shouts to him.

“Be a merciful father to me!

See how I suffer, poor thing!

I've been lying here for ten years...

I’ll serve them myself!..” -

Kit Ivana begs,

He himself sighs bitterly.

"OK. Okay, Whale Fish! -

Our Ivan shouts to him.

Here the horse began to clog under him,

Jumped onto the shore and set off:

You can only see it like sand,

It swirls around your feet.

Are they traveling close or far?

Do they go low or high?

And did they see anyone -

I do not know anything.

Soon the tale will be told

So that I ask you:

Will the torment end soon?

How can I find forgiveness for him?

And why is he lying here?”

The clear moon says:

“He bears torment for this,

What without God's command

Swallowed among the seas

Three dozen ships.

If he gives them freedom,

God will remove adversity from him.

Instantly all wounds will heal,

He will reward you with a long life."

Then Ivanushka stood up,

Saying goodbye to the bright Moon,

He hugged his neck tightly,

Kissed me on the cheeks three times

“Well, Ivanushka Petrovich! -

Mesyats Mesyatsovich spoke. -

Thank you

For my son and for myself.

Give a blessing

Our daughter is comforted

And tell my dear:

“Your mother is always with you;

Full of crying and ruin:

Soon your sadness will be resolved, -

And not old, with a beard,

And the handsome young man

He will lead you to the leash."

Well, goodbye! God be with you!

Bowing as best I could,

Ivan sat down on his skate,

He whistled like a noble knight,

And he set off on the return journey.

So he comes running to the village,

He calls the peasants to his place,

Shakes his black mane

And he says this:

"Hey, listen up, laymen,

Orthodox Christians!

If none of you wants

Order to sit down with the waterman,

Get out of here immediately.

A miracle will happen here:

The sea will boil violently,

The Whale Fish will turn..."

Here are peasants and laymen,

Orthodox Christians

They shouted: “There will be trouble!”

And they went home.

All the carts were collected;

Without hesitation, they put in them

Everything that was in the belly

And they left the whale.

Morning met noon,

And there’s no longer any left in the village

Not a single soul alive

It was as if Mamai was going to war!

Here the horse runs onto its tail,

Close to feathers

And he screams with all his might:

“Miracle Yudo Fish-Whale!

That's why your torment

What without God's command

You swallowed among the seas

Three dozen ships.

If you give them freedom,

God will remove adversity from you,

Instantly all wounds will heal,

He will reward you with a long century."

And having finished speaking like this,

I bit the steel bridle,

I strained - and instantly

Jump to a distant shore.

The miracle whale moved

It's like the hill has turned

The sea began to disturb

And throw from the jaws

Ships after ships

With sails and rowers.

There was such a noise here,

That the king of the sea woke up:

They fired copper cannons,

Forged trumpets were blown;

The white sail has risen

The flag on the mast unfurled;

Pop with respect to all employees

Sang prayers on deck;

And there’s a cheerful row of rowers

The song burst out loudly:

“Like along the sea, along the sea,

Along the wide expanse,

That to the very ends of the earth,

The ships are running out..."

The waves of the sea swirled

The ships disappeared from view.

Opening my mouth wide,

Breaking the waves with a splash:

“What can I do for you, friends?

How to reward for service?

Do we need flowery shells?

Do we need golden fish?

Do you need large pearls?

I’m ready to get everything for you!” -

“No, whale-fish, we are rewarded

Nothing is needed, -

Ivan tells him,

Better get us the ring, -

Ring, you know. Tsar Maidens,

Our future queen." -

"OK OK! For a friend

And an earring from your ear!

I'll find you before lightning

Ring of the red Tsar Maiden" -

Keith replied to Ivan

And, like a key, it fell to the bottom.

Sturgeon all the people

And he says this:

"You reach the lightning

Ring of the red Tsar Maiden,

Hidden in a drawer at the bottom.

Who will deliver it to me?

I will reward him with the rank:

He will be a thoughtful nobleman.

If my order is smart

Don’t fulfill... I will!..”

The sturgeons bowed here

And they left in order.

In a few hours

Two white sturgeons

They slowly swam up to the whale

And they humbly said:

“Great king! Don't be angry!

We are all the sea, it seems,

They came out and dug up,

But they didn’t open the sign either.

Only Ruff is one of us

I would carry out your order:

He walks across all seas,

So, it’s true, the ring knows;

But, as if out of luck, he

It’s gone somewhere.”

"Find him in a minute

And send me to my cabin!” -

Keith shouted angrily

And he shook his mustache.

The sturgeons bowed here,

They started to run to the zemstvo court

And they ordered at the same hour

From the whale to write a decree,

So that messengers are sent quickly

And Ruff was caught.

Bream, hearing this order,

The decree was written by the name;

Som (he was called an adviser)

I signed the decree;

The black cancer laid down the decree

And I attached the seal.

Two dolphins were called here

And, having given the decree, they said,

So that, on behalf of the king,

We've covered all the seas

And that Ruff the reveler,

Screamer and bully,

Wherever it was, found

They brought me to the sovereign.

Here the dolphins bowed

And they set off to look for Ruff.

They are looking for an hour in the seas,

They are looking for an hour in the rivers,

All the lakes came out

All the straits have been crossed,

They couldn’t find Ruff

And they came back
