In Orthodoxy, September 2 - Samoylin Day - is known as the day of memory of the prophet Samuel, who was considered the protector and patron of all peasants and disadvantaged people. On September 2, in the morning, they went to church to pray to Samuel and ask him for good weather - according to signs, it was very important to have time to finish them before the cold snap and the start of rains.

In the church on September 2, the memory of the prophet Samuel ("heard by God") is venerated. It is known that Samuel was born at a rather difficult time, when people did not yet believe in God and worshiped idols.

The task of Samuel was to guide the people to the right path. It was quite difficult to do this, because at that time the high priest Elijah was in power, and the moral decay of people in Israel reached its climax. Very soon, the Philistine tribes attacked the Israelites, who captured the most famous shrine - the Ark of the New Testament.

But Samuel immediately called his fellow tribesmen to repentance, found words to inspire them to fight for their freedom. It is believed that it was after this that the revival of the people began. This was largely facilitated by the so-called "prophetic doubts" of Samuel, which made it possible to awaken patriotism in people.

Very soon Samuel became the supreme judge and ruled very wisely. However, when he got old, people were afraid that after the death of Samuel, anarchy would begin again. That is why they turned to Samuel with a request to appoint a ruler who would become his successor. Samuel prayed to God, and he ordered to do as people ask, but warned that this would lead to misfortune. Then Samuel appointed Saul as his successor, secretly anointing David as king.

In Russia, Samuel was considered the protector of men. Therefore, on September 2, representatives of the stronger sex were honored. It was important to cook many delicious dishes so that the owner of the house would eat and be satisfied with the treat.

By the way, since September 2 appeared a large number of mushrooms, they could often be seen on the table. Fried potatoes with mushrooms were especially popular among the people.

Day of the end of World War II (1945).

Commemorative date of the Russian Federation, established by the Federal Law of July 23, 2010 “On Amendments to Article 1.1 of the Federal Law “On Days military glory and memorable dates in Russia"

Second World War began on September 1, 1939 and lasted six years. This is the only military conflict in which nuclear weapons were used.

The war was unleashed by Nazi Germany, fascist Italy and militaristic Japan. It involved 62 states out of 73 that existed at that time (80% of the world's population). The fighting was carried out in Europe, Asia and Africa, as well as in the waters of four oceans - the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Arctic.

On July 22, 1941, Germany attacked the USSR and the Great Patriotic War. In the summer of that year, an anti-Hitler coalition began to form. On May 8, 1945, the final act of unconditional surrender was signed in Berlin. Nazi Germany.

On August 8, 1945, the USSR, in accordance with the commitments made at the Crimean and Potsdam conferences, declared war on Japan, and the next day began hostilities.

After the defeat by the Soviet troops Kwantung Army and the loss of a military and economic base in Northeast China and North Korea, Japan lost the opportunity to continue the war.

On September 2, 1945, on board the American battleship Missouri, Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu, as representative of the emperor and the Japanese government, and Chief of the General Staff, General Yoshijiro Umezu, signed the "Act of Unconditional Surrender of Japan." On behalf of the allied powers that were at war with Japan, the Act was signed by General Douglas MacArthur (USA), on behalf of selected countries- Admiral Chester Nimitz (USA), Lieutenant General Kuzma Derevyanko (USSR), General Su Yongchang (China), Admiral Bruce Fraser (Great Britain). Representatives of Canada, France, Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands also signed on behalf of their countries.

The total human losses in World War II ranged from 60 to 65 million people, of which about 30 million were killed on the fronts.

Day of the Russian Guard.

300th anniversary of the Russian guard.

Memorial Day of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, which is celebrated in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation "On the establishment of professional holidays and memorable days in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation" dated May 31, 2006

The Russian Imperial Guard was formed by decree of Peter I from the Preobrazhensky and Semenovsky regiments in 1700. For more than two centuries, guards units have won victories in various military conflicts, bringing glory to Russian weapons. In 1918 guards regiments were dissolved.

September 18, 1941 is considered the birthday of the Soviet guards, when the order of the People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR Joseph Stalin "for mass heroism, courage of personnel, high military skill" 100th, 127th, 153rd and 161st rifle divisions was awarded the rank of guards.

At present, there are more than 100 military units and formations of the army and navy of Russia, which have the honorary title of guards.

Day of workers of the oil and gas industry.

Established by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 28, 1965. Celebrated on the first Sunday of September.

The oil and gas industry is one of the leading sectors of the Russian economy and forms almost a quarter of the gross domestic product and two thirds of the budget's export revenues. The volume of oil and gas condensate production in the Russian Federation in 2017 amounted to 546.800 million tons.

Day of the Patrol Service of the Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Installed in 2002 by order of the Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The date was not chosen by chance: on this day in 1923, the order of the Central Administrative Department of the NKVD of Moscow "Instruction to the guard policeman" was published, in which his rights and obligations were fixed. Three years later, patrol services were created in almost every city. Their distinguishing marks were a white uniform with a badge and a police baton.

To date, the patrol service has more than 90,000 employees who perform tasks throughout the country.

Day of Lake Baikal.

The holiday was established in 1999.

Lake Baikal is located in the southern part of Eastern Siberia on the border of the Irkutsk region and the Republic of Buryatia. According to various estimates, its age is from 25 to 35 million years.

Baikal is the largest lake in the world by volume fresh water: about 23 thousand cubic meters km, which is more than 20% of the world and more than 85% of Russian fresh water reserves. 365 large and small rivers flow into the lake, and only one flows out - the Angara. There are 27 islands on the lake, of which the largest is Olkhon (the area is more than 700 sq. km).

About 3 thousand species of aquatic animals live in Baikal, and more than half of them are not found anywhere else in the world, among them the Baikal omul, the Baikal sturgeon and the Baikal seal (nerpa).

In 1996, Baikal was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

100 years ago (1918) the Revolutionary Military Council of the Soviet Republic was created.

It was created on the basis of the decision of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of September 2, 1918 on the transformation of the Soviet Republic into a military camp. It was the highest collegiate body for the leadership of the country's defense. Leon Trotsky was appointed its first chairman.

The members of the Revolutionary Military Council were approved by the Council of People's Commissars. Their number was variable and, apart from the chairman, his deputies and the Commander-in-Chief, ranged from 2 to 13 people.

In 1934, the Revolutionary Military Council was abolished by a decree of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR.

78 years ago (1940) an honorary insignia of the highest military ranks - the "Marshal Star" was introduced.

It was established by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Later, the so-called "small" Marshal's Star was also introduced for the marshals of individual branches of the military.

The "Marshal's Star" was a five-pointed star made of gold and platinum with diamonds. It was designed to be worn in full dress around the neck (under the collar of the uniform, and since 1955 - on the knot of the tie). "Big" and "small" stars differed in size and the presence of diamonds between the rays. Before the abolition in 1997, about 200 of these stars were made.

200 years ago (1818) Goznak was founded.

In connection with the large spread of counterfeit money in Russia during the Patriotic War of 1812, Emperor Alexander I signed a decree "On the establishment of an Expedition for the Procurement of State Papers." It became the first domestic special enterprise that produced

paper money, bonds, stamped paper and other security products.

The Expedition printed not only Russian banknotes, but also money for the Kingdom of Poland, the Grand Duchy of Finland, payment stamps for the Russian-American campaign.

In 1919, the Expedition for the Procurement of State Papers was transformed into the Directorate of Factories for the Procurement of Government Papers, or Goznak for short.

Today, JSC Goznak includes eight enterprises - branches: Moscow Printing Factory, Perm Printing Factory, Moscow Goznak Printing House, St. Petersburg Paper Factory, Krasnokamsk Paper Factory, Moscow Mint, St. Petersburg Mint and Research Institute. It produces not only banknotes, change and commemorative coins, but also passports, excise stamps, orders and medals, GSM cards and telephone cards; bank cards, etc.

The production capacity of the enterprise allows to produce annually 11 thousand tons of security banknote paper, 7 billion copies of banknotes, 5 billion coins, up to 40 million passports, from 30 to 45 million postage stamps, etc.

The memorable date was established by the federal law "On Amendments to Article 11 of the Federal Law "On the Days of Military Glory and Commemorative Dates of Russia", signed by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on July 23, 2010.
The international legal basis for establishing a new memorable date is the Japanese Surrender Act, signed on September 2, 1945 on behalf of the United Nations by representatives of allied states, including the USSR, that were at war with Japan. This document marked the end of World War II. The largest war in the history of mankind between two world military-political coalitions lasted six years - from September 1, 1939 to September 2, 1945. It covered the territories of 40 states of three continents: Europe, Asia, Africa, as well as all four oceans (Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Arctic).
The war was unleashed by fascist Germany, Italy and militarist Japan together with other members of the fascist bloc. 61 states were drawn into it, of which 14 were on the side of the states of the Berlin-Rome-Tokyo axis and 47 on the side anti-Hitler coalition. The total population of the states plunged into the war exceeded 1.7 billion people.

Exactly 60 years ago, on September 2, 1945, Japan's surrender was signed aboard the battleship Missouri. World War II is over.

For the Soviet Union, this last campaign was fleeting - only 24 days - and victorious. The population learned about it only from short and solemn reports of the Sovin-Formburo, where unforgettable names sounded - Mukden, Port Arthur ... No bombing, no blackouts - the war was distant and almost imperceptible. Preparations for it took place in deep secrecy, and she herself turned out to be semi-secret. Even in the history books, they talked about her briefly and indistinctly. Victory Day over Japan - the day the Second World War ended - never became a holiday for Russia.

On June 22, 1941, when Nazi Germany attacked the USSR, the Great Patriotic War began. It was then that the foundation was laid for the creation of the anti-Hitler coalition.
On May 8, 1945, the final Act of the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany and its armed forces was signed in Berlin, and May 9 was declared Victory Day in the USSR. The Great Patriotic War is over.

Desiring to secure their borders on Far East, the Soviet Union at the Yalta and Potsdam conferences of the leaders of the three allied powers assumed the obligation to enter the war with Japan after the end of the war with Germany. On August 8, 1945, in accordance with these obligations, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan and on August 9 began hostilities.
At the final stage of the Second World War, during the Manchurian strategic, South Sakhalin offensive and Kuril landing operations, the grouping of the Armed Forces of the USSR in the Far East defeated the troops of the Japanese Kwantung Army and liberated northeastern China, North Korea, South Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. The military and economic potential of Japan was seriously undermined, and the defeat of the Kwantung Army forced this country to capitulate.
World War II is over. She brought untold destruction and huge losses to all participating states. The victory of the Soviet Union and the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition over Nazi Germany and militaristic Japan in this war was of world-historical significance and had a huge impact on the entire post-war development of mankind.
The history of Russia has always been rich in significant events worthy of being immortalized in people's memory. In all ages, the heroism and courage of Russian soldiers, the power and glory of Russian weapons have been an integral part of the greatness of the Russian state. The memorable date of September 2 is a kind of second Victory Day. The Soviet Armed Forces defended the freedom and independence of the Motherland, participated in the liberation of the peoples of eleven countries of Europe from fascist oppression, drove the Japanese invaders from Northeast China and Korea.

September 3, 1945 was approved by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR as Victory Day over Japan.
Long years in the official calendar significant dates this date was ignored. Today, historical justice has been restored: September 2 has been declared a public holiday - in memory of "compatriots who have shown selflessness, heroism, devotion to their homeland and allied duty to the member states of the anti-Hitler coalition in the implementation of the decision of the 1945 Yalta Conference on Japan."

End of World War 2, surrender of Japan

One of the points of the law on the "Days of Military Glory" marked this date - the day the Second World War ended. For our country, this is not quite a holiday, but rather a day of remembrance, and the Day of Military Glory, dedicated to all the defenders of the Fatherland who took part in the battles for the Motherland, is considered a holiday. On September 2, Japan's surrender was signed on the USS Missouri. Among the countries participating in the act was the USSR. The largest world war lasted exactly 6 years, 40 countries from three continents participated in it. It is simply impossible to calculate the exact number of victims, the official number is about 1.7 billion people. For Russia, September 2 is a celebration of victory in the war against the Japanese aggressors, immortalized in the national holiday of military glory.

Police Patrol Day

The first instruction of the NKVD to a guard policeman, issued on this day by the NKVD in 1923, regulates the provisions on the service of a guard policeman, work duties and rules. In all cities, these units appeared and served, observing order and ensuring the peace of citizens. Employees of the teaching staff have a special uniform, and are in crowded places - in gardens and parks, on city squares, on roads, streets. Today, the PPS is also one of the many law enforcement agencies in every corner of the country.

Labor Day in America and Canada

For more than 100 years, America has been celebrating this interesting holiday, the origins of which lie in the desire to give workers an extra day off. The trade unions stepped up their work, and were going to organize special parades of workers on this day to express gratitude to their unions. The holiday in America and Canada is different from the European first of May - here people just relax and have fun, grateful for a free minute to relax. Campsites are organized all over the country and everyone goes out for fresh air, barbecues.

Samoilov day

Samuel is a biblical prophet, his name is translated as "Heard by God." He lived in a difficult time for his people, when help and guidance were needed. Moral decay reached a critical point, and as a result, the Philistines captured religious shrines - the Ark of the Covenant. Samuel, with his sermons, inspired the Israelites to expel foreigners, enlightened their compatriots, awakening a patriotic attitude in them. He ruled the people and was considered the supreme judge, but when he grew old, people asked him to appoint another person to manage, while changing the heavenly envoy to the earthly king. God allowed Samuel to fulfill the request of the people, but at the same time ordered him to explain that now people are responsible for their own actions. The first ruler Saul disappointed Samuel, he was replaced by David. In Russia, since then, Samuel has been considered the intercessor of men, on this day the daughters give their fathers new shirts, and the wife sets a rich table, honoring the men. September 2, 2018 is the national holiday Samoilov Day. The Church today remembers the prophet Samuel, who lived in the 12th century BC. e.

According to legend, from birth the saint was under the care of the judge of Israel, the high priest Elijah. One of the first revelations that came to the boy as a teenager was that the house of the judge would fall for the sins and unbridledness of his sons. When the prophecy came true, Eli died from intkbbee grief. So Samuel became the judge of Israel.

The prophet saw in this a sign of God and put a lot of effort into the development of the Christian faith among his people. Much was achieved thanks to the "prophetic schools" he founded, whose task was to awaken love for the motherland and spread enlightenment.

Under his rule, the Israelites recaptured the cities previously captured by the Philistines, and they returned the taken Ark of God themselves. Having reached old age, Samuel did not find a worthy successor and was forced to appoint a king to the people. Leaving the post, the prophet looked for a person whom he could inadvertently offend, but could not find, and with a calm soul he retired.
